Gore climate concert kicked off of Capitol grounds

In a decision that sent discordant music wafting toward Al Gore's ears, a group of Republican senators has put the kibosh on using the Capitol grounds for a gigantic climate-change-awareness concert this summer. The group -- led, not surprisingly, by climate skeptic James Inhofe (R-Okla.) -- blocked a resolution authorizing Gore to use the area as the North American venue of his 7/7/07 Live Earth shows. The move was justified, Inhofe declared through a spokesperson, because the event would be "highly partisan." Because as everyone knows, global warming affects only Democrats. Rep. Edward Markey (D-Mass.) spoke for all of the groovy people: "It's dangerous enough to deny science; it's sheer lunacy to deny song." In less loony news, the Goracle will receive the 2007 International Emmy Founders Award in November for his role in launching young-adult-focused Current TV and for spreading awareness about global warming. Really, he's been doing that? Who knew?

Al Gore may be doing harm instead of helping

Shouldn't we all be concerned about the hyppocrisy, already made public about Al Gore's actions?...In my opinion, he is deffinitelly worse to the cause than helping it, as a lot...I should say most of his "theories", were already largely discredited by some of the most respected scientists. Let's help the environment, but for the Earth's interest alone, not to support vain inane political agendas. STOP Mr. Gore.....you're not helping. Victor

In all fairness...

Well I certainly don't agree with Victor, and in fact, I think his position -- like Sen. Inhofe's, ignoring the truth about what the scientists are saying and attempting to inappropriately discredit Mr. Gore and perpetuate the lunatic idea that global climate change is not happening and that we can pollute our environment without repurcussion -- is extremely dangerous.

However, to be fair to Sen. Inhofe, of whom I am not a fan, Al Gore may yet announce he is running for President. There are several draft Gore web sites operating and unlike in 2004, Gore has not asked his supporters to back off and he has said most recently that if he runs he will announce in September.

Not knowing whether Gore will run for President or not, I think it is appropriate to not have this concert on the Capital Steps. If Gore was saying, absolutely no way am I running and asked his supporters to stop, that would be different.

There's plenty of places in D.C. to hold the concert and bickering about the location is just distraction to our energies to combat climate change AND it gives Inhofe publicity.
