Come On, Baby, Do the Loco Oceans

Rising ocean temperatures caused by anthropogenic warming, says study

Well here's a shocker: turns out it's global warming causing the globe's oceans to warm, a phenomenon linked to more intense hurricanes. Such is the counter-counter-intuitive conclusion of new research in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Over the 20th century, average sea-surface temperatures in the tropical Atlantic and Pacific Oceans have increased by 1.2 and .58 degrees Fahrenheit, respectively; meanwhile, Category 4 and 5 hurricanes have increased twofold over the last 30 years. Researchers compared observed ocean-temperature changes with the predictions of 22 climate models, and found that only heat-trapping greenhouse-gas emissions from smokestacks and tailpipes could adequately explain the warming. "[T]his study confirms that it cannot be explained by a natural cycle," says co-author Nathan Gillett. We hate to say "I told you so" ... OK, actually we like that.

Talk about conversions!

What a terrific contribution to the cause of generating action on global warming! As much as I applaud the missionary work of Al Gore via his doc, I fear that most viewers of it are already in the church ... and they're watching to have their intelligence confirmed and their moral fortitude reinforced. A case of stoking the fires of the core believers.

This doc, on the other hand, has the potential for whipping up moral fervor from folks who have been sitting out the global warming issue ... only vaguely aware of it and not yet perceiving the moral imperative involved.

God bless the producers and whoever fronted the production money!

global warming

Well,I don't know where you got your information, but it must be faulty. The president of the united states still has not acknowledged that there is such a thing as global warming and he should know.Oh yeah, I forgot he has muzzled the scientist and forbid them from talking about certain things in the public forem on penalty of ouster. So anyhow there is no such thing as global warming.

Why not ask why!?
