Bush Nominates Eco-Hostile Lobbyist to Federal Appeals Court
Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee gave a roasting last week to William G. Myers III, President Bush's nominee for a position on the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Myers, a former lobbyist for the mining and cattle industries, has a history of making outlandish anti-environment pronouncements, and his nomination is vehemently opposed by a coalition of more than 60 environmental groups and other advocacy organizations. There's a fair chance Senate Democrats will threaten a filibuster and scuttle the nomination -- and that may suit the White House just fine.
