Random Acts of Unkindness

The Earth Liberation Front is back in the news, after vandals went about their business and then etched the group's initials on the windows of two McDonald's and one Burger King in the Richmond, Va., area, as well as on the windows of 25 SUVs at a local dealership. Those incidents occurred this fall; earlier this year, vandals slashed a number of SUV tires in a Richmond suburb and destroyed equipment and the interior of a home at a development site. ELF has no formal leadership -- its only public presence is a website and virtual press office, which said it had no detailed knowledge of the Virginia vandalism, but the acts of destruction were "in keeping with other ELF actions that have targeted pollution, roads, and vehicle culture."
