15 Is Enough

The U.N. Environment Programme says forest-protection efforts worldwide should focus on just 15 countries that contain more than 80 percent of the most-intact forests left. UNEP says 88 percent of the targeted forests face little pressure from human activities. The 15 countries are Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Papua-New Guinea, Peru, Russia, the U.S., and Venezuela. UNEP came to its conclusions after studying the first global forest survey using satellite data.
