Wake Up and Smell the PetrochemicalsPresident Clinton said yesterday that rising gasoline prices should serve as a "wake-up call" for the nation to take energy conservation more seriously. Speaking at his second press conference of the year, he said that OPEC's decision to boost oil production should reduce oil prices soon, but Americans should still do their part by using efficient lightbulbs, insulated windows, and solar panels. Clinton also called on Congress to reduce American dependence on foreign oil through the use of alternative fuels and an increase in domestic oil production. Meanwhile, a new website, GreenCar.org, lets citizens vent their annoyance at high gas prices by sending online postcards to America's automakers to call for more efficient vehicles.
