EV Come, EV Go?

General Motors Corp. is still committed to manufacturing its EV1 electric cars, the company's vice chair said yesterday, contrary to reports last week that the company planned to abandon its electric car program to concentrate on vehicles powered by fuel cells and hybrid-electric systems. News that GM was dropping the EV1 had angered some enviro groups. Meanwhile, Ford Motor Co. Chair William Clay Ford, Jr., predicted this week that hybrid cars and trucks powered by a combination of electricity and other fuels could account for 20 percent of vehicle sales by 2010. But he predicted that both hybrids and traditional cars would eventually be ousted by fuel-cell vehicles. Ford also said that the auto industry would soon completely recycle old cars into new ones. Lots of talk; where's the action?
