Hey, I'm a CO Too!

EPA needs to pay attention to carbon monoxide, says judge

Posted at 3:58 PM on 08 May 2008

Carbon dioxide gets all the press, but the U.S. EPA is way behind on its legal obligation to update the nation's carbon monoxide regulations -- and it needs to get crackin', a federal judge ruled this week. Federal law requires a reassessment of carbon-monoxide standards every five years, but the EPA last took a look at the standards in 1994. While carbon monoxide is not considered to be a huge public-health threat, two recent studies have found that it could be dangerous at levels previously considered safe. Carbon monoxide comes from auto tailpipes and fossil-fuel refineries and can cause health problems, birth defects, and, at high levels, death. Following full scientific review and a comment period, any changes to the standard must take place by May 2011, said U.S. District Judge Jeffrey White, rejecting the EPA's request for an extension to October 2012.

EPA is

EPA is f'ing useless and crap! ~ They might as well USDA, FDA, and all the other pseduo org's that are paid off by big corps and government business people!

EPA shenanigans

They basically ARE the USDA & FDA--a perfect match in inefficiency.
Thanks to the writers of the Clean Air Act of 1990, which didn't include CO2 as a pollutant.  Because of that, they think that ALL regulation of greenhouse gases is out of their hands (hello, as this article mentioned, we've got alot more to worry about than CO2).

Such arrogance brought forth a lawsuit from 12 states and 13 enviro groups in 2007.  Guess what? The Supreme Court voted 5-4 that the EPA needed to 'fess up.

Amazing.

Political flak at EPA

The EPA as an organization has apparently been pressured politically - http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/0 ...

Union of Concerned Scientists conducted a study, which reports high level interference in the EPA's ability to do its job. Read it and weep.
