If At First You Don't Succeed, Perhaps It Was a Bad Idea

Third try at coal-plant bill heads to Kansas governor

Posted at 12:46 PM on 25 Apr 2008

Kathleen Sebelius.
With firm belief in the power of try, trying again, Kansas legislators have sent another coal-plant proposal to the desk of veto-happy Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. The governor has twice shot down legislation to allow a new two-unit coal plant to be built in her state, but legislative leaders say the new plan is a compromise: it would reduce the size of the proposed plant and set accelerated timelines for Sunflower Electric to develop renewable energy sources, create consumer efficiency programs, and track greenhouse-gas emissions. Sebelius says she will analyze the bill and bring a decision mid-next week, though she notes that the new legislation has "a number of the elements of the two bills that I've already vetoed" -- including disallowing the state environment department to impose tough restrictions on power-plant emissions. The state legislature believes that this time it has enough bipartisan support to override a veto.

If At First You Don't Succeed, Perhaps It Was A Ba

One has to admire a politician who would sacrifice her popularity to champion her constituents' health and welfare.
It is ironic to note that in order to proceed with sustainable resource technology, we must logically battle the old order of Earth unfriendly folks.

With so much wind and sun available for free, why would we sacrifice health and welfare to unsustainable fossil fuels which ruin our very air and water resources.

Extraction, transport and operation of coal all use oil and gas and fresh water, and create noxious gases.

Wind and solar, use available free material on site and easy connection to existing grids. and are cost effective in fabrication, installation and operation. Not dependent on international wars, or local water supplies.

And renewable resources also create income to farmers who lease land regardless of weather they may continue to pasture and cultivate food crops all around with no ill effects.

To All politicians responsible for our economic and ecologic survival, please read all points of view before condemning us to natural consequences of environmental proportion.

naturally concerned, greenadine

Awesome!

I say we start a Kathy for VP campaign!!  A real green politician in the second seat of power.  Cheney has enhanced the power of the office.

Agreement

I agree with amazngdrx. Now is the time to have a powerful VP who is for renewables, instead of a corrupt cronies who is in the pocket of Big Oil and Big Business.Hell,he is the poster boy for Big Business. He still has major influence in Haliburton.
A reminder for nadine.Renewables such as solar panels are not totally clean and do have a pollution footprint, that said.I am totally for renewables as in solar, hydro, hydrogen, and wind. There is less pollution and less damage from mining and destruction of habitat for animals and people. We need more money for research so that these pollution problems that renewable have can be reduced or alleviated.

Why not ask why!?
On the short list

the cable news claims Kathy is one of three leading candiadtes for Barack's VP.  From the blog to the national scene.  That's how things ought to be done.  Hehey.  Go Kathy!!
