Mexico City encourages transit ridership with women-only buses

Women in Mexico City have long been deterred from riding public transportation by the very real possibility of being groped or verbally harassed while packed in with other passengers. "A woman could enter a metro car a virgin and come out pregnant," says one female rider. The subway system has female-only cars during rush hour to address the problem, but now city officials are taking it a step further, introducing women's-only buses along three busy routes. Women's buses, designated by a pink sign in the window, will be added to 15 more routes by April. The city's female riders are delighted. "Otherwise, I have men sticking to me," says passenger Alejandra Lugo. "And here I am, 58 years old. Imagine how they treat the younger girls."

Sexist anti-male enforced discrimination

Any male who tries to board certain buses in Mexico City is now automatically treated as a molester and refused entry... thanks to the government there having given in to "complaints from women's groups"; presumably the usual sort of crew of man-hating radical feminists.

Even when racial segregation was (lamentably, of course) practiced, colored people were allowed in the back of the bus. Males are hated by feminist bureaucrats more than any minority group in history, so must wait, whether in rain or hot sun, for the 'Inferior Gender Allowed' bus.

Another 'great' feminist idea which will no doubt catch on in time everywhere where few enough males are informed enough to make enough of a hue and cry to stop it being introduced.

If there was a real problem on the buses in question, then undercover police should have been used to make arrests until it largely ceased, not all men discriminated against for the actions of a few with a new gender hate law.

And as usual with feminist legislation, it's the men on the bottom who suffer the most, while the legendary 'privileged males', along with their well-paid sisters, will keep on as usual driving or motorbiking or in cabs or limos. To the feminist mind, a man who is down is easy (and fun) to kick repeatedly and keep down.

Of course, those men who can afford car transport but choose the bus for environmental reasons are also punished for their choice. To the radical feminist mind, all men are evil, and must be discriminated against by more and more laws until they lose all rights and power and cease to be 'dangerous.' This attitude is in fact as sexist as it's possible to be.

This bussing business is yet another testament that Western feminism has no use, indeed all right-thinking men and women must oppose it until all anti-male legislation (i.e. so called 'affirmative action') is abolished. Make yourself useful in the rest of the world where you actually have some use, slimy sisters, while the rest of us establish true gender equality - i.e. equal rights for all.

Guys, if you even hear this or similar rubbish suggested as being introduced in your own area, complain LONG and LOUD, or the bitches will have you walking soon, given their way. meanwhile, you might ask your MP why there are NO shelters for men abused by their female spouses.

Due criticism in the above is of course directed only at the man-hating variety of radical feminist/bitch (and their male feminist fellow travelers or 'eunuchs' as well), not to good rights-loving men and women everywhere.

Local solutions to local problems

If the groping/frottage situation is bad enough in Mexico City to warrant special, women-only transit, then it is a fine thing to provide that male-free transit. Though I would hope that males who could prove themselves civilized enough to go the duration of a bus trip with a woman without attempting to impregnate her would also be welcome.

Obviously this is not called for in places like San Francisco, where the harrasment tends to be equal opportunity. But in areas where women's only transporation options are public, to effectively deny them transit by making that transit have an unacceptable personal cost is reprehensible.

Female-only

train compartments were common in England at least up through the 1950's as I recall. They disappeared as women gained more rights of self-determination and self-defense in the law.

The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit.
Thinking Outside The Box

Identification of this particular barrier to use of public transporation was -- though obvious to the women affected -- a brilliant "discovery".

I can just picture "environmentalists" scratching their heads and wondering why people won't use public transportation, calling for all sorts of financial incentives and punishments, perhaps trying to make people feel guilty, or just stamping their feet demanding that people should be forced to ride buses.

All it took was a simple and dramatic improvement in the quality of the service.

I hope this inspires additional creative thinking.

Segregation on buses and elsewhere

Whew.

As one who is commited to public transport, I know that in the cities I've lived in there have been a lot of social barriers to public transport. Some have clearly had to do with race, but most are about class, it seems to me. I've wondered if we shouldn't just have a two-tier, separate but unequal, public transport system in cities to roughly correspond to the way it works in the bus vs. train case, or ground vs air. Go ahead, be a status-obsessed, race-queasy snob, but please pollute the earth less while you're about it. Trouble is, I don't want to see money diverted from the systems that serve lower income riders. Some time back, there was a thread on here about the appeal of trolleys over buses. Fine. Whatever works.
Now, as for Mr. Stevenson's concerns, of course we don't want anyone barred from full and enthusiastic use of the bus. But I don't think that's happening. In our houses, men and women share facilities that are segregated by sex in the public sphere. If we have to add some Mexico City buses to that list, I can live with it.

Wow

When it gets this dangerous to use mass transit, only undercover law enforcement can correct the situation.

But of course the law enforcement system is burdened with drug users.  No resources left over to stop violent crime, especially sexual assault.  The system blames the victim.  Stone the innocent, just like in jihadist run cultures.

groped in Mexico City

I just wanted to share with y'all a little story about myself walking through a turnstile boarding a subway in mexico city.  some jerk came up behind me and groped me RIGHT as i was going through, which meant that i couldn't turn around and smack him unless i wanted to pay for another fare.  if i rode the subway everyday there, i would wear full body armor... or a barrel.  I understand the consequences of separating transit among class/status/gender/race, but if my pride was squashed everytime i got on the subway on my way to work, i would definately opt for the separation.
