Fat-fueled speedboat will undertake second circumnavigation attempt

Posted at 1:35 PM on 19 Dec 2007

One of our favorite heroes is back in action. Pete Bethune, who attempted to set a global circumnavigation record in a biodiesel-powered speedboat in early 2007 -- and donated his own ass fat to the fuel mix to garner publicity -- has announced a second attempt, kicking off in March 2008. Baby got back onboard.

Power Boats Bad

Um, I hate to break it to you, but ALL power boats are environmentally destructive, regardless of what type of fuel they run on.

There is so much noise in the ocean from the engines of boats and ships that whales are having a hard time hearing each other.  Whales and other marine mammals are also getting run over by these vessels, often fatally.

The moral is, if you're going to travel on the water, do it naturally by wind or manual power.  Eschew all power boats!
