Water You Thinking?

Schwarzenegger unveils $9 billion water bond package

Posted at 1:30 PM on 19 Sep 2007

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has unveiled a $9 billion water bond plan, including an unprecedented level of taxpayer payout for water projects and funding to build or expand three dams. Lawmakers hope to place some form of water bond on a Feb. 5 ballot, and Democratic legislators will likely spend the next few weeks lobbying for more of an emphasis on cleaning up polluted groundwater, H2O recycling, and good ol' conservation.

California Legislature

The state's legislature isn't going to debate much. They adjourned for the year a week ago.

Waters for fighting.....

Crazy water schemes are a perrenial hazard in California as agricorperations are able to promote water scams on LA basin voters.

The game works like this: Agribusiness bribes, funds, or otherwise co-opts the members of the water board that supplies the LA basin. The same water board also ships water from the water rich North of the state to farmers in desert areas in the south.

The LA water board then executes various scare campaigns that claim that voters will die of thirst unless more water is shipped from the north state. This is patently untrue as most of the water is used to irrigate fields, landscaping and golf courses.

Bond and canal measures are put on the ballot promoted by water board (state) money and the agricorps scare machine. After a bitter public relations battle with environmentalists the latest scheme gets voted down (again).

Wash, rinse, repeat.......do not use wash water for golf courses.
