Theory vs. Praxis
Hi there,
I just started a little company called Ukunto. I know that statistically I'm doomed to fail, and I'm not really looking forward to it in case it ever happens. But, negativity aside.
I started a company making wooden toys in Canada. There's nothing revolutionary about the toys, just the fact that everything is made here (I've got some pretty grand ideas about a business that is in fact much different than others in my mind, but I need to gradually grow into that).
I must say that the biggest point that I agree with in this blog post, is that you have to get up and do it at one point. I've been thinking about different business' to start for the past few years, but I always failed to get up and do it. So I started this, unfortunately head over heel, much less prepared than many of my theoretical business' that I "started" before.
I find in this business, it's really important to know your margins. I'm selling, and although I'm not competing with Chinese toys (I just can't), I still have to be very very careful, wholesale is what is killing me. I'm staying positive though and innovative, because that is the only way for me to stay in business.
Cheers, Hans
