I didn't know that Colin had died, either.  Thanks for posting this.  Colin was my inspiration when I started writing a column for The Denver Post, in 1976, that I titled, "The Art of Walking".  When, as a result of my column, the Interior Dept. was overwhelmed with mail on the proposed Indian Peaks Wilderness Area, the dept took it from 36,000 acres back up to its originally proposed 86,000 acres, where it eventually came in at.  I credited, in my column, Colin with the inspiration for me to pursue that wilderness area like I did, even though it cost me my job because of the conservative bias at The Denver Post.

I should also note that, once, my life was saved, while solo camping in January, beside Cairn Lake in RMNP, by a Wilson's Meat Bar.  I had picked up the habit of carrying one after reading The Complete Walker (what a GREAT book!)

To a large extent, as you say about yourself in your piece, we all walk in Colin's footsteps.

I hope that Colin still gets to hike!  On A valedictory to Colin Fletcher posted 2 years, 1 month ago 2 Responses
