    I have been experimenting with CFLs for a year or so, and in fact have given up using them in our dimmer switched dining room. I have talked with various people at our local bulb emporium(where all the contracters & electrical types go), and they agree that the technology for CFLs in dimmers simply isn't there yet. Each of the CFL brands we've tried has worked but burned out much faster than conventional bulbs. So I have decided to wait on those.

    And if anyone has advice, we have similar trouble with the potential replacements for 65W indoor 'floods' for use in open ceiling fixtures - they go faster than the conventional ones do, and I am ready to give up on those too. The regular CFLS bulbs for other lamps work just fine and we are 100% converted.
