Flattening of Appalachia
Global warming and climate change aside, promoting the use of coal will have other particularly devasating implications...namely an encouragement of a coal extraction process that goes by the name of mountaintop removal. This increasingly used method has resulted in the destruction of over a million acres of land in Appalachia (W.V. and K.Y. particularly) and wrought havoc on the livelihoods and culture of the people there. Bringing the war from the Middle East to exclusively our country is not the answer. Stopping our wars altogether and embracing non-extractive industries are.
