  • Charlie Crist has got the cart before the horse

You're right, it was safety inspections that they did away with around 1990.  Re: emissions inspections, I found these statements on the Florida DMV site...

"In July 1, 2000, the State of Florida abolished the auto emissions test requirement for all vehicles throughout the state. The smog-tackling program only lasted nine years and had often been a fiercely political issue for many Florida residents and legislators.

Several counties allegedly registered air clean enough to make the tests obsolete, but even the counties with continuing poor air quality are looking for alternate ways to breathe easy again.

Meanwhile, if you spot a smoking vehicle on the highway, your only recourse is to hold your breath―currently there is no program in Florida for reporting gross emissions polluters."

Charlie Crist has got the cart before the horse by acting like a hero on this EPA emissions issue: he should first get the vehicle emissions program started again state-wide and THEN join Arnold on the soapbox. Bet he'd be really popular in Florida then!On An interview with Florida's governor, a Republican climate crusader posted 1 year, 10 months ago 6 Responses

  • Someone please answer this question...

I moved from Florida to NC in 1990 and about that time Florida had dropped its auto safety and emissions inspection programs.  18 years later and Florida still hasn't restarted its auto emissions inspection program.

So how can Crist be such a big green proponent if the State of Florida isn't even checking what and how much coming out of it's tailpipes???

Every time I go down to Orlando to visit my folks, I see the throngs of giant pickups and SUVs speeding down I-95 and I-4.  The way I see it, Crist needs to start practicing what he preaches. On An interview with Florida's governor, a Republican climate crusader posted 1 year, 10 months ago 6 Responses
