bottle bills
One of the reasons that bottle bills have not gotten much attention of late is that, while they are effective in stemming litter, they undermine recycling programs. Aluminum is the highest priced commodity in any recycling program. Bottle bills (cents back for returning cans and bottles) remove the aluminum from local recycling programs making them much less profitable. (If a program is to be sustainable, there must be some profit for those who are doing the work.)On Umbra on returnable bottles posted 2 years, 6 months ago 10 Responses
Bush's choices
Does it seem to anyone else that the Prez tries to do everything in his power to push his ultra-conservative agenda? I know that is his right, but it seems to me that rather than trying to be conciliatory and choosing nominees that are conservatives and yet be acceptable to the other side, he chooses nominees that are the least acceptable to the "opposition" (be it women, enviros, pro-choicers, etc.). He seems to be thumbing his nose at those of us who disagree with him and saying, "nah, nah, look what I'm doing and you can't stop me". It seems to me that the President of the United States should be working to unify the whole country, not just working to force the Republican platform. On Notes on the new Supreme Court nominee. posted 4 years, 4 months ago 3 Responses
