really?
While I think Gore has provided an incredible push toward waking up the general public to the state of the environment, I find it odd that people automatically take this as a sign that he ought to rerun for president (and that he would win) on what is basically a single platform. As Hertsgaard points out, he likely has much more influence and freedom to push his platform outside of the Whitehouse (whose power has diminished under it's current occupants). Also, I think it's fair to say that, when he was running, he seemed extremely uncomfortable, stiff and less than able to negotiate and schmooz with both domestic and foreign politicians. Now, I'm certainly not saying that I wish he hadn't won then, but he seems as if he's found his element and I doubt taking a step back and getting back into politics is going to improve the situation. On Why Al Gore isn't running for president posted 1 year, 10 months ago 25 Responses

His day job was as a bee keeper in New Zealand, where he also participated in efforts to preserve the country's endemic species and biodiversity. Great guy, all in all- will be missed by the climbing and mountaineering world. On Everest climber dead at 88 posted 1 year, 10 months ago 5 Responses
