Huntsman
Huntsman is spot-on. The way back for a revived conservatism refounded on Edmund Burke's ideas about stewardship will not be smooth. The talk radio bloviators, think tank ideologues, and other "movement" reactionaries who have been breathing each other's exhaust for years will not gently yield either their radical definition of "conservatism" or their tatty political strategy of exclusionary dogmatism.
But look for Huntsman and other younger, more pragmatic conservatives to have a strong go at dislodging a venerable tradition from their deadening grasp. Wish them luck.On Utah gov bashes fellow Republicans on environmental issues posted 12 months ago 7 Responses
Re: McCain & Exxon Valdez
Well, in this century, John McCain voted against oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, against an offshore oil inventory, against new Tongass logging roads, for tougher CAFE standards, for limits on greenhouse gas emissions, and for strict controls on power plant mercury emissions.
McCain is the only GOP presidential candidate who will give environmental issues a fair hearing. Nothing good for the environment can come from defaulting to partisan polarization.
