Indian stereotypes
So I think the original title was questionable. But to call Jindal a "Slumdog"? All people of Indian descent are now slumdogs? Not at all cool.

Maybe I'm just oversensitized by the chimp cartoon, but I think the title of this post fixates on Jindal's Indian background in kind of a weird way and as such isn't appropriate. (Origin of the gin and tonic: a way for the British colonialists to drink quinine to prevent malaria in India).

I understand compromising in order to get things done, but toeing the line on the environment is arguably the most pressing issue we face. For Obama to sell out--suggesting that drilling will bring down prices when anybody who's done any basic research knows it won't--is totally turning his back on the environment. The tradeoffs he names are an unambitious commitment to renewables and more incentives for ethanol, which is an absolute boondoggle. I would have hoped Grist would call Obama out. As the Talmud says, If not now, when? If not me, who?

I'm pretty well read on green issues, but I don't know for sure what EDF is. That old journo rule of identifying your acronyms applies here, please!
