Pads
I crochet mine, and put old washclothes in the center. Then when soiled, yes, soak them. I use a little biodegradeable soap, then, I throw the water in the garden, alongside the plants, not on them. Main point, if you use water, use it as many times as you can before you are done with it. Thanks Umbra! On Umbra on that time of the month, again posted 2 years, 10 months ago 19 Responses
go visiting
My suggestion if you are interested in doing co-housing or community: visit www.ic.org find some interesting looking communities who are doing what you want, and go visit. Most are open to visitors and interns, and it is an invaluable resource to be there, see how others do it day by day, and talk to anyone you can at the community. Try to learn from others mistakes and strengths. And read Diana Leafe Christian's book!On Umbra on co-housing posted 3 years, 11 months ago 5 Responses
Pad Influence
My Two Cents: I crochet my pads from organic cotton, and add a layer of terry cloth or two layers of flannel, and sew them up.
I wash them out (yes, ewww, it's no groser than diapers) and hang them on the line.
I used to use bleach, but that's not good for me or the environment, so now I just soak them in lavendar soap.
It works for me, and I feel good about not adding to the local landfill. (I figured each woman uses something like 4,000 maxis in her lifetime.)On Umbra on composting feminine products posted 3 years, 11 months ago 5 Responses
