Comments peapack has made
Not misplaced
The visceral reaction against Vilsack was based on experience--years of his pro-GMO, pro-Monsanto policies and actions. On Vilsack continues to lay the groundwork for reform posted 9 months, 2 weeks ago 7 Responses
innie or outie, it's a dud
Regardless of who was the intended audience here, the background art is horrendous, and Clad is bad. I'm a Gore fan, but if I were a volunteer with this group, I'd want someone to give a more invigorating (and shorter) update than Clad is droning. A lot of the rhetoric she's using an insider would already know; if I were thinking of joining up (and isn't that what they'd want?) hearing this kind of soporific would make me think twice...
And since Al invented the Intertubes, he should be aware that all sorts were going to see this. After all, who hasn't seen that guy lose his pants on the ski lift?On Former veep to rally climate change activists posted 9 months, 3 weeks ago 8 Responses
when are you going to talk about population?
Cate Blanchett may think climate change is urgent--but she has three kids! Brangelina have made 3 and who knows where they'll stop. Population is driving this thing as much or more than any other factor--step up to the plate, Grist!!! Anyone producing more than one kid (see Bill McKibben's excellent book of about a decade ago, Maybe One)shouldn't qualify for this list. period. You want more than one kid, get a recycled one (adopt). On Read about six couples who turned their eco-love into an eco-venture ... posted 9 months, 3 weeks ago 15 Responses
FutureGen is not clean
Obama wants FutureGen's "clean" coal-fired power plant in Illinois. I've seen presentations by this group, in which they don't count the energy used before and after the coal is burned:
-the coal still has to be mined
-it still has to be shipped
-the waste products have to be shipped
-sequestering the carbon in underground mines and shafts will require energy expenditureWith net energy gain reduced by these processes, you're better off with wind and solar. On A look at Barack Obama's environmental platform and record posted 2 years, 4 months ago 11 Responses
tea kettles
Another vote here against the ickiness of microwaved tea water.
I have a Capresso electric tea kettle, heats up very fast, turns off automatically, with a glass pot. A bit pricey, but worth it. On Umbra on boiling water for tea posted 2 years, 9 months ago 23 Responses
don't trust vilsack
I spent 5 years in Iowa, during which then-gov Vilsack relentlessly pushed genetically modified crops and other biotech, and fit comfortably in the pocket of Monsanto, DuPont, ConAgra, and other industrial ag behemoths. Despite having gone to the same college (different years) I wouldn't vote for him if you paid me. On It Takes a Vilsack to Raise Our Hopes posted 2 years, 9 months ago 2 Responses
