Milleniarian scam
As I understand it, we are now at a minimum in the 11-year sunspot cycle (see Wikipedia, Sunspots), which drives down temperatures. There is also an El Nina in the Pacific that is reducing temperatures. Once those pass, the temperatures will go right back up again. Global warming doesn't have to be entirely linear; in fact, we know for a fact that it won't be.
Reality is what will save the "Millenarian scam".On 'The satellites show cooling'--No, they don't posted 1 year, 5 months ago 15 Responses
Consensus vs. scientific consensus
Scientists are held to--and hold themselves to--higher standards. Unpopular ideas, like handwashing, spread if they turn out to be true. The same is not true of politics. This is why there is a mismatch between the political consensus now (let's do nothing, or talk and do nothing) versus the scientific consensus. WMD was an example of a political consensus uncontaminated by actual facts.
Recall when there was no consensus about what killed the dinosaurs--asteroid strike or volcanoes. Now there's a consensus that it was an asteroid strike. What happened was not a popularity contest or some sort of political putsch, but rather a slow accumulation of facts supporting one side.
In any case, the argument here is not "consensus is the same as truth" but "consensus is not the same as conspiracy". You are responding to an argument that isn't being made. Science is always provisional, and no scientist would say otherwise. On 'Consensus is collusion'--Is climate science maturing, or should we reach for our tinfoil hats? posted 1 year, 5 months ago 8 Responses
Trying hard not to understand
Locustspicy--
You underestimate the accuracy of measurements they could make in 1750. Boyle's Law, which is based on quite accurate measurements of gas pressure and temperature, was formulated in 1662, almost a century earlier.
But that is beside the point. Measurements of methane in 1750 are not based on measurements actually MADE in 1750, but rather upon measurements of air bubbles trapped in ice from 1750, using modern instruments and techniques.
I did not actually know the answer to this question when I read your post. However, it took me less than 30 seconds to find the answer using google. Probably less time than it took for you to write your entire post. Methinks you are expending considerable energy trying NOT to understand. On 'There is no evidence' -- Yes, there is posted 1 year, 5 months ago 59 Responses
