In some parts of Appalachia, coal mining is responsible for up to 15% of employment.
That's why it's treated as so important that the mining industry continues. Its demise means putting tens of thousands of people on the streets. If you want coal mining to be treated with less deference, your interests would be better served by pushing to diversify the economies of places in coal-rich areas. More people working outside the mines means less resistance to ending coal use.On Why does everyone assume that coal mining in Appalachia must continue? posted 2 years, 3 months ago 8 ResponsesShopping?
I imagine the lifestyle of an urban European would differ from a rural one. When I lived in Chicago I hardly put anything in my fridge because the grocery store was just a block away.
Now that I'm in the vast expanse of exurbia I have two full-size fridges that are filled up. On Umbra on refrigerator downsizing posted 2 years, 4 months ago 34 Responses
Indian food
India practically invented vegetarianism and South Indian food is, primarily vegetarian. In fact, most non-veg. dishes are really just vegetarian dishes retooled with chicken or mutton.
I recommend getting yourself a good Indian cookbook and seeing what you find in there. It's not even so much about the Indian food itself as it is a matter of getting ideas on how to cook without meat.
The lack of "fullness" you complained about can probably be fixed with more fiber. Legumes and other high-fiber foods ought to be able to fix that. Do some research on the various kinds of more exotic grains beyond the generic corn, wheat, or white-rice to see what you'd like.
