  • Extremist Rhetoric Counterproductive

This "You Just Can't Be a Meat-Eating Environmentalist" rhetoric will turn off far more people than it will ever persuade.  It is an obviously opportunistic attempt to coopt those who want to reduce global warming into supporting an extremist animal rights position they would not ordinarily support. • "Food Business " Quite Provincial

I think our London journalist needs to broaden her perspective.  When one considers what one puts in one's body, it is quite a different consideration from what one wears or plays with or even drives.  We are talking about physical well-being, long-term health, not to mention other not-so-minor issues like the planet's future. And hungry cities are full of people who need healthy food too! On If buying locally isn't the answer, then what is? posted 2 years, 3 months ago 28 Responses

  • Trees, Carbon and Global Warming

I agree that the conclusions reached by the study are misleading.  It also seems to me that the basic methodology of the study is flawed - I would be interested in the opinions of scientists on this.  For example, why only pine trees?  They certainly wouldn't be my first choice - I would at least want to plant a variety of trees to see which ones would absorb the most CO2.  Also, what about trees planted in areas that naturally receive a lot of rainwater, and that are planted with lots of natural fertilizer?  The study does acknowledge that when these elements are present, these trees do absorb greater quantities of carbon dioxide. On Their Bark Is Worse For Our Blight posted 2 years, 3 months ago 5 Responses
