EmeraldCloud: You're right... until enough Freddies of the world decide to take the ferry or train, in which case the transit authority might add another trip in the next scheduling go-round. In that sense, the marginal impact might be higher than zero - it depends on what everyone else does.
Oh no, I've gone cross-eyed.

Great! But... what's a corporate traveler to do?
This was a great article, but as an employee of a larger company, I don't have a whole lot of choices when I travel for business. Basically, I have to choose whatever the company's travel service website gives me, and mostly in urban locations. What should I choose? Are certain chains better than others?

As bad as fireworks themselves may be, how do their explosion-related emissions stack up against the emissions caused when all the spectators drive cars from home to the fireworks display? On Umbra on fireworks posted 2 years, 4 months ago 11 Responses
Biking is Green!
"I think because people ride their bike they automatically assume they are Earth-"friendlier" than others."
Sure, two sets of bike tires a year seems like a lot of petroleum products - but how much petrolem products are you NOT burning from a gas tank? In rough numbers: driving a 25-MPG car 15,000 miles in a year consumes 3,600 pounds of gas and generates 12,000 pounds of carbon dioxide. A few pounds for bike tires is a drop in the bucket.

beer...
Don't forget organic beers too! I'm partial to Wolaver's, but I think one of the big breweries (Anheuser-Busch?) recently came out with one too.On Umbra on organic liquors posted 2 years, 8 months ago 5 Responses
