  • Just go for it

What do you have to lose?

I joined a CSA this year, and sure I got a lot of food, but I would never say "I don't have enough time to prepare it." I think people need to stop whining and just learn to eat good food again. I can steam up a nice big pot of veggies in minutes, and maybe that's more prep than throwing a box of corn-syrup-invested-microwaved-boxed-waste-product in the microwave, but I can wait the extra 5-10 minutes. When I do feel like cooking something more glamourous, I will take the time, but just because I'm cooking from the CSA doesn't mean that is the activity for the day.On Umbra on singles and CSAs posted 2 years, 2 months ago 13 Responses

  • Update

I posted to this earlier. I now get 40MPG by using more hypermiling techniques. This really works, and just takes patience. I bought a ScanGaugeII which gives me an instant MPG readout. On Saving gas the non-hybrid way posted 2 years, 4 months ago 6 Responses

  • It's works, and just needs patience

My Subaru is said to get 23 miles per gallons, and I do use hypermile techniques and now get just about 40MPG. It takes a little longer to get somewhere, but it's going to save me hundreds and reduce my emissions. Gassavers.org is a wonderful resource for more information. On And You Should See 'Em Pop a Wheelie posted 2 years, 4 months ago 6 Responses

  • Good Idea

I've been doing things like this in my Subaru and went from 23mpg at best to 28mpg without any of the more radical techniques. I mostly started because I replaced the brakes which cost a good deal of money, and realized that coasting in neutral that last half mile of the highway is much better those who accelerate up the ramp only to brake at the end. I know the times between light changes in town so I drive exactly 12mph in neutral towards the red light which turns green right before I get to it. Tricky stuff! On Saving gas the non-hybrid way posted 2 years, 5 months ago 6 Responses
