  • Chestnuts

I remember my mother baking store-bought chestnuts for my father, in the 60's, in Connecticut.  He had a small, commercially-sold device that looked like a large metal bottle cap with a raised, sharpened "x" in the center.  Before my mother baked the chestnuts, my father forced the cap down onto each nut, piercing the "x" into the chestnut shell.  During the baking, the piercing opened up like flower petals, making it easy to extract the cooked nut from the shell.  My mother once made chestnut stuffing for the Thanksgiving turkey and although I never was a big fan of chestnuts, I remember that stuffing as being absolutely delicous. On Long forgotten, chestnuts are coming back with a vengeance, and make a delicious holiday pudding posted 11 months, 4 weeks ago 5 Responses

  • Sheer arrogance

What an amazing display of arrogance for a convicted felon...or his party...to even consider continuation of his campaign for a senate seat.

On the other hand, if Alaskans still deem him worthy of their representation in Washington, I suggest we sell the whole state back to Russia...cheap.On Longest-serving Republican in Senate found guilty of concealing gifts on disclosure forms posted 1 year, 1 month ago 1 Response

  • Richard's right

I notice Umbra admits cruise control is not more efficient in mountainous terrain.  I live in a "hilly" (for want of a better term) area and I would say the same goes for my terrain.  As Richard pointed out, humans have the ability to anticipate a hill and act accordingly; cruise control does not.  I can improve my mileage over cruise control by slowly increasing my speed going down a hill and then trading that momentum off for less gas consumption, going up the next hill.  Cruise control actually slows the car down, going down hill, and then has to use a lot of gas keeping a constant speed going up the hill.On Umbra on cruise control posted 1 year, 2 months ago 8 Responses
