  • Foot detox pads

Bought them and tried them one night, absolutely no change in the appearance of the pads.  Sent them back and got a prompt refund.  After I had ordered them I saw an item either online Consumer Reports or in the Consumer Reports On Health newsletter I get monthly, or it could have been in the monthly Consumer Reports magazine I get saying they were not helpful.  Enjoy your answers Umbra, keep it up.  BirdyOn Umbra on toxins in your body posted 1 year, 3 months ago 13 Responses

  • Ethanol

Ethanol does not burn as clean as gasoline, decreases mileage per gallon and also production uses 5 gallons of water for every gallon of ethanol produced.
Corn is one of the most nutrient stealing crops around. That is one reason why the experts reccommend no more than 3 years of corn rotating with legumes or rye plowed under to replenish the soil. Excessive use of fertilizers to increase production leaches into the water table, rivers and streams causing a lot more problems than gas at $4.00 a gallon.  On EPA refuses to lower requirement for ethanol in fuel supply posted 1 year, 3 months ago 2 Responses

  • oil shale development

As with most of the governments plans for energy the oil shale is one of the worst.  The pollution is extensive and the cheapest way to get to the shale is open pit mining.  Water useage is high to make the slurry and chemicals added to the mix are also highly toxic to the environment.
As with the ethanol production, it takes five gallons of water to produce 1 gallon of ethanol. Corn is one of the most nutrient soil robbing plants in the farm world.  The land used to produce this product is also taken out of food production.  I am all for renewable sources of energy such as solar and wind.  That Texas oilman (can't think of his name) has the right idea and it can be done a lot more quickly than any drilling on or offshore.     On Bush admin proposes low royalty rates in push for U.S. oil-shale development posted 1 year, 4 months ago 12 Responses

  • 1.6 gallon flush toilets.

They don't work well.  My sister has one and couldn't flush clean without doing the procedure more than once or twice, not much savings there.  I found that just holding the lever down until bowl is empty works but have no idea how much water is used in each flush.  I think less than the old fashioned flush toilets.  Some of the problem lies in the shape of the bowl she had installed.  I will be looking for one with a shallower bowl, not so much funnel like.  On Umbra on replacing toilets posted 2 years, 4 months ago 8 Responses
