fireworks
Umbra,
I think you are missing the point, fireworks release tons of particulate matter (PM 10), and though you mention the main elements of them, the smoke is the problem. The air quality can be ridiculously bad, with thick clouds enveloping children and adults. If you measure the air quality on that night we would exceed all standards, and allowing that is not good. It's too bad the stands are manned by groups like the girl scouts and churches, as you would have to battle both the american way and the non-profits to make a difference. Too bad Ms. Little didn't bother to ask Mr. Murdoch about his companies ownership of the Klamath hydoelectric dams and the impact these dams have on the west coast salmon fishery and tribal cohesiveness. On An interview with Rupert Murdoch about News Corp.'s new climate strategy posted 2 years, 6 months ago 14 Responses
Has everyone forgot about west coast salmon?
I am amazed that the possible curtailment of the west coast salom fishery has not been discussed on NPR or Grist. Secretary Norton's decision to select a handful of "experts" to dismiss the NOAA Fieries and USFWS biological opinions, and give the farmers water in the Klamath basin resulted in what some call the largest fish kill in the history of the U.S..
The fishery management council is considering the curtailment of the west coast salmon fishery because the Klamath stocks are so low, and though the Sacramento fishery is considered healthy, the Klamath stocks intermingle with the Sacramento stocks. This is Norton's legacy. On Gale Norton resigns posted 3 years, 8 months ago 8 Responses
elevator pitch
We need plants and animals to keep the air and water clean. Salmon distribute the oceans nutrients to the forest, the forest cleans and stores the water, and produces oxygen. On An elevator pitch for environmentalism posted 4 years, 8 months ago 154 Responses
