  • Stop US subsidies for NOT growing rice

Let  us  get  rid  of this  immoral practice of  giving   subsidies to rice growers (e.g., in Texas) who  DO NOT  grow anything  at  all.

This practice contribute  to  the food  shortage and feeds antiamericanism over the  world.

Politicians who  support this  ugly  practice should be denounced. I  suggest  to use this  money  to  feed people instead.  On Snippets from the news posted 1 year, 6 months ago 5 Responses

  • move truck freight to trains

France plans to stop making  new highways and to  transfer the  freight traffic from highways to  rail. It seems a great  idea. We'll still  need some trucks to  go to places that  trains cannot  reach  (yet). Containers can travel  by  truck and by  truck. We can put  the who truck trailer on trains too.

Switzerland does not  allow trucks across the country. All trucks are loaded on freight  trains. It seemed crazy first, but  it  works.

And the truck drivers' jobs ? We have to  respect  that too. Give those people free training and  priority  for all the  position that  will be created. Compensate those  close to retirement. On Rail freight is more efficient than truck freight posted 2 years ago 3 Responses

  • cats, birds, rodents and lyme disease

I  notice that, if the  cat kill  something, 90% of the time, it is a mouse or a very  young  rabbit.

It is  know that  mice carry (deer)ticks that  carry  lyme disease. I  feel more comfortable  knowing that my  cat  reduces the rodent  population around the  house.

I  have 4 birdhouses. Once, the cat  killed one young bird. I now keep  the  cat  indoors when the young ones are ready to fledge.

From my  personnal  observation, the effect  of the cat  on the  bird population is not  significant. I  am glad the cat  limits the mice population. On Umbra on cats and birds posted 2 years ago 72 Responses
