Now They Admit There Are Poor People?
How typical of the right-wing evangelicals! Up until now, they had little or no concern for the poor of the world (let alone the poor in our own country). However, when it suits their purposes (i.e., supporting the right-wing politicians' denial of global warming in order to allow corporations to continue to profit by the pollution of the earth and the destruction of wildlife), they suddenly become worried about the poor. What hypocrisy! I hope that intelligent people can see through this shameful manifesto which is nothing more than another attempt to make the rich richer and destroy our environment in the process. Earth Day
With only 45 minutes left in the day, I want to wish everyone a Happy Earth Day 2008. I have fond memories of the very first Earth Day, in 1970, when I was a freshman in high school. We celebrated it with a variety of activities back then, and it is refreshing to see that, 38 years later, many young people in school are carrying on the important message of Earth Day!On This year, send your friends the Grist.org Earth Day e-card posted 1 year, 7 months ago 2 Responses
Free Lolita
Thank you for this article about Lolita. I am grateful, too, for all the celebrities who are involved in the effort to free Lolita. It really helps a lot when famous people speak out about animal and environmental issues. We, the ordinary people, can and do try to educate our friends and neigbors about such things, but we are often outshouted by the voices of denial, who try to make fools of us. When celebrities point out the importance of animal rights or environmental protection matters, there is a better chance that people will listen, and it gives the rest of us hope that these causes will become more widely accepted and heeded. On Elton John, Lindsay Lohan, and 50 Cent unite to free a killer whale -- meet the man who brought them posted 1 year, 7 months ago 11 Responses
Al Gore for President
I truly hope that someday this announcement of Gore's candidacy becomes true, if not this year, then during a future Presidential race. I voted for Gore in 2000, and I would be happy to be able to vote for him again. On Gore will run for president as independent, sources tell Grist posted 1 year, 8 months ago 34 Responses
Polar Bears
When I first read this (sent to me by a relative who received it from a friend), I took it seriously. It almost seemed like a good idea. Forgive me, but I'm new to Grist, so I wasn't prepared for the joke, but then I realized that it was April 1st....OK, now I get it. Thanks for the neat introduction to Grist. On New campaign plans to relocate polar bears to Antarctica posted 1 year, 8 months ago 27 Responses
