  • Another pro-CSA point for Tara

Just had to mention that my CSA pick-up spot is quite the, um, pick-up spot. Not that I have picked up anything other than my food, but from what I've seen, there is potential for a bountiful harvest of the male kind. From one single girl in Sac to another...I say,

  • "wildlife" is more than just birds

While I heartily believe in encouraging the native flora and fauna of one's area I think it's extremely important to point out that wildlife means more than just birds. When you invite wildlife into you yard you need to cognisant that you are also welcoming those rodents, mammals and more, that are also part of the ecosystem.

One of the most adaptable and resilient of these is the coyote - an incredible animal who most frequently bears the angry brunt of unassuming 'wildlife welcomers' when their dogs and cats start to disappear; and animal that for some reason garners little to no respect from so many.

With coyote sightings on the rise everywhere from Los Angeles to Seattle to Chicago to New York City's Central Park, please remember when you welcome wildlife you can't be selective as to who takes you up on your offer.

  • Pork import/export

The Animal Protection Institute recently released an investigation into the transport of farmed animals as the US has virtually no regulation of animal transport.

What they found was pretty horrible. In fact, they followed one truck full of pigs, with no food, water or rest, from the midwest to somewhere south of MEXICO CITY! Investigators were told American producers send the pigs south for slaughter because it's cheaper labor. Then, the pork that was once a pig, is imported back into the U.S.

  • vegan luv

judging by the respondents in the study, the ratio of vegan/veg women to men is as off there as it is here.

i have to agree with the people at PETA that conversion is a girl's best option because there are so few veg/vegan men in the U.S - and your friends have probably already slept with them all. On From Vegans to Vengeance posted 2 years, 4 months ago 6 Responses

  • Sooo confused

For those left as confused as I am by this um, meat-free grilling guide, I thought I'd offer some suggestions based on my follies with my newly-acquired second-hand meat-free grill.

Tofurkey sun dried tomato and basil sausages ROCK the grill. So do Morningstar smoked sausages. Both also make great additions to veggie skewers.

Morningstar vegan grillers are good 'burgers' though i wish they were bigger and could completely fill their buns.

An oft-requested side dish from my freeloading friends is marinated, grilled artichokes. I won't go into the details here so find yourself a recipe online. FANtastic!

And for dessert the big favorite is grilled peaches (yup, just slice 'em and throw 'em on there - i find the white freestone peaches easiest to slice without squishing to death in attempt to remove pit)or pineapple over soy dream vanilla ice cream, drizzled with a little orange muscat port.

Mmmm. no longer confused, just hungry....On A guide to grilling without red meat posted 2 years, 5 months ago 17 Responses
