Walmart isn't the problem
I get a bit testy at those that come down on Walmart. They are by no means a fabulous company, but to blame them? They are making money because people buy from them. They are instituting green improvements that many other companies are not. They did not make the cyanide hep-leach extraction process for gold. They are illuminating it. I am impressed at this change. Why do the previous posters find it so easy to chastise Walmart for providing supply line info, when Tiffany's, etc do no such thing?
I say applaud the information. Applaud the effort. And encourage the changes to the companies with your own buying habits. How many of you know where your earrings came from?
And most importantly, work to pass legislation that promotes clean earth practices. But to chastise a company for selling a product that people buy? No. Chastise our government for not regulating it. Go Honda, Go Honda!
Isn't it funny that a non-American company is already rolling this thing out and our American companies just finagled -what was it?- 30 or 50 billion dollars for R and D? On Honda produces new fuel-cell car posted 1 year, 5 months ago 4 Responses
Oh, Tampa, my smoggy traffic congested city...
Now if they would just approve some kind of feasibly mass transit system to address the incredible sprawl and congestion. Oh, and if they could find a way other than un-enforced signs by the waterways to prevent speeding boats from killing manatees. And if they could get all those big houses and hotels to turn of the lights at night during those few summer months sea turtles hatch on the beaches.
But really, I am really happy about the green buildings.

The problem as I see it, is that the people who will pay for these gross ag oversights and mistakes are not the same people as the ones making them. Our politicians, and most of us can simply shift our buying dollars from products to food if we have to. But the 850 million people in the world mentioned in the article? They don't have that luxury. It is easy for me to plant some extra crops in my organic garden and sing Kumbaya to myself - or move to Thailand and buys farms with American dollars and wait it all out. But what happens if you really care about what happens to those 850 million people? Do any of us with our high speed internet and thousands of dollars of computer equipment really know what it feels like to hold a child as they slowly die of starvation? Listening to crying that goes on and on until you don't think you can bear the noise, and just then is slowly gets weaker and weaker and you'd give anything to hear that strong cry of a healthy unhappy child again? Now multiply that agony by 850 million.

Why is this stalling even happening? Our country has so many serious issues that need wise individuals to carefully evaluate the complex situations and reason out thoughtful and thorough solutions. They should not be playing power games with our COUNTRY and futures on the line! They should be ashamed of themselves for being so incredibly childish. There is debate to be had. Hash out the details like grownups, please. Time is too precious for these sophomoric political games.
