  • big business?

I'd like to know exactly what JMG was thinking, too - but I don't think it would be hard for anyone to venture a guess. My best approximation would be that, if you look at the staff/advisory board, a vast majority (granted, not every individual) came from private sector corporations or consulting - not exactly a real credential builder for those who have been doing environmental advocacy for a long time. Whether or not environmental protection should be a profit-making venture is perhaps another question that I don't really care to discuss right now. But I would have to say that while there isn't anything specifically wrong with the topics or writing, I, too, am weary of those with a big business bent like the leadership of MNN.On Green as in money posted 10 months, 2 weeks ago 15 Responses

  • pot calls the kettle what?

from the first video: "we don't need a bunch of pie-in-the-sky, so-called 'opinions', based on some phony political rhetoric that means nothing".

interesting, sir. and you say you believe that drilling for oil anywhere and everywhere is the solution to our energy crisis. very interesting with this 'phony political rhetoric' bit.On Grist talks to Republican convention-goers about McCain's climate and energy plans posted 1 year, 2 months ago 2 Responses

  • yeah, kids

sure, I'm a "Gen Y'er", but at least I could come up with a bit better list of eco-friendly companies - Apple, Netflix and Starbucks all baffle me. Sure, I am typing this on a Mac, but Apple is known to be one of the least eco-friendly technology manufacturers. Netflix mailing out millions of red envelopes that end up in the trash isn't quite eco-friendly either, and the same goes for all of the waste that Starbucks puts out, not to mention their unfair labor practices and plantation-style farming in Central America.

why not Patagonia or Chaco or someone who actually does a decent job of being eco-friendly. It seems like they just picked the 15 most stereotypical businesses that yuppies purchase from.

  • keynotes are the key

I watched a good deal of NN on the live internet stream (including your panel). While certain parts of certain sessions were incredibly insightful, others weren't and I found myself doing other things. The highlights by far were the keynotes - and I think that is due in part to them being new perspectives, or at least new ways of presenting old perspectives. Even if someone didn't like Pelosi or Gore or even Van Jones, they brought something to the conference that a couple thousand bloggers couldn't. I plan to attend next year in Pittsburgh, and some more education for bloggers, and less education by bloggers may be good advice. On Netroots Nation needs a reboot posted 1 year, 4 months ago 3 Responses

  • this is great

<swoon> this video is absolutely fantastic. it's great to hear someone, even an underdog, go out on a limb and say what it is that very few have really said.
