    Why isn't anyone pointing out that the Republicans are simply lying, again, to gain access to whatever their corporate cronies want.  Drilling in our environmentally sensitive areas will NOT reduce gasoline prices to previous levels.  The only real solution to our 'energy crisis' is to get into rehab and end our addiction to oil once and for all.  We need to re-define our means of transportation and energy supplies now if we are going to have a future.On House Speaker says she's open to compromise on offshore drilling posted 1 year, 3 months ago 4 Responses

    I'm surprised that no one has mentioned a solar (thermal) hot water system as a solution for Jesse.

    A solar system with an adequately sized storage tank, placed in the basement, could meet not only his heating needs but also provide his domestic hot water (and heat his hot-tub to boot).

    You ask how we are going to continue our civilization without CO2 pollution.  The answer is that we, each and every one of us, needs to take responsibility for our part and act responsibly with what we can do.

    First step: conserve.  For less than $250. you can change your lightbulbs (and turn them off) to CFLs and reduce your personal carbon footprint by 1.5 lbs. of CO2 per kWh of electricity saved.  Then look critically at the rest of your electrical usage: your coffepot, dishwasher, washer, dryer, refrigerator, water heater (basically everything) and turn it off, use it less, or replace it with a more efficient model.

    Mr Anderson demonstrates what can be accomplished with a firm commitment to the energy/environment equation.  Cudos!

    In response to Dorh83, don't be disheartened or 'feel unempowered'.  Federal leadership can't hold a candle to what each of us, as individuals, can accomplish by choosing to do what we can.  Change your lightbulbs, drive less, install solar thermal and electric systems, grid tie and co-generate, then tell everyone you meet how well it works.  Sell it!

    jabailo, lies? . . . I think not.  The Bush administration has, all along, been talking about our technological future.  Hydrogen is NOT a fuel, it is a very expensive and inefficient energy storage/transfer medium, like a bad battery.  

    Have you ever heard of bait-and-switch?  Putting our bucks into 'future tech' is simply a political tactic that maintains the status quo and delays any REAL change.

    Why are spending our tax dollars on 'future tech' when we have had, for more than 15 years, all the technology we need to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions AND break our foreign oil addiction at the same time - solar (thermal & PV) and wind.
