disappointing
I was at the Toronto rally and was disappointed by the turnout. I think the rally could have been better publicized. This was a far cry from the masses that demonstrated in Toronto against the Iraq war in 2003
The good news is the rally got excellent press, and the coverage is positive. Keep up the good work!On Thousands of protesters in over 50 cities call for climate action, now posted 1 year, 11 months ago 2 Responses
It's the precautionary principle

I think that Europe's main point is that screwing around with an ecosystem in an irreversible way is a bad idea. The benefits and complete safety of this technology have not been adequately proven, and there are some studies cited in the NYT article suggesting the GMOs could have a negative impact on ecosystems
As the old saying goes, never bet more than you can afford to lose. Even if there is a low probability of harm, the potential harm is great and irreversible.
Nice to see a place where politicians aren't in the pocket of big business.

We usually post Christmas boughs - branch cuttings tied up with ribbons on our front porch. Very festive looking, much less work than decorating a big tree with plastic Chinese made ornaments. On On organic Christmas trees posted 2 years ago 20 Responses
puts Steven Harper to shame
Here in Canada, the government intends to renege on the Kyoto Accord. The government is cutting climate change abatement programs.
What's needed is strong efforts to employ current technology backed by regulation, not bogus 'intensity based' garbage.

Toys
Ah yes the free market at work protecting our kids again. If the market won't even prevent Mattel from importing poisonous toys then it sounds like it's time for some old fashioned government regulation
Having a new baby is a real eye opener. The products made in China are poorly packaged in non recyclable packaging, low quality, and apparently full of poison.
We have had trouble finding safer toys for the baby - there are some non-China made items of higher quality, e.g. Sophie the Giraffe, a famous french toy, and some nice wood toys/craft type toys available at places like "Cheeky Monkey" in Toronto. On Toying With Our Emotions posted 2 years, 3 months ago 1 Response
