  • WHat!?

Once campaigning has become more important that filling one's duty to his constituents we know there is a problem.  Right now is the time that congress needs to focus on passing climate legislation to reduce our carbon emission 80% by 2050.  If the candidates are not even being asked questions about their climate policies, then the responsibility lies on the other representatives. We must tell them now that global warming is happening, and we need real solutions! On Clean-energy-boosting economic stimulus bill falls one vote short in Senate posted 1 year, 9 months ago 3 Responses

  • No, this will not do.

    Dear American citizens,
Do you realize that we need to curb our carbon emissions IN SEVEN YEARS? Yes, by 2015 we need to have stopped increasing our carbon emissions every year and start reducing. Congress needs to create this legislation now, or we will not be able to avoid the worst global warming will DEFINITELY bring us.  Renewable energy will be a big part of this movement, which will end up creating 185,000 green jobs nationwide. What other prospect will create that many jobs that quickly? So, American people listen up and tell your congressmen that you want to see climate change solutions NOW, not in 2009.  Who cares if it is "difficult" this year...the members of Congress need to stop acting like whiny children protecting the auto and energy industries and start protecting their people.

    Sincerely,

  • Dingell is a Dinosaur

One would think that Dingell's committee would gain a member that is forward-thinking, unlike the ancient chairman...but, nonetheless the new member has cursed the hopes for new legislation proposed by the committee. If these are the men who are in charge of protecting the air, water, and land of our country from the effects of global warming, then our country is in need of dire help.  They need to take responsibility (not meaning it's their fault directly) for the problems our countries excessive carbon emissions have caused and put a cap on them NOW.On House energy committee not primed to rush through climate bill posted 1 year, 10 months ago 11 Responses

  • Keep focus on congress

Seeing as Congress makes the current legislation regarding RPS and made legislation concerning CAFE standards, I think it is pertinent that activists and those who are aware of environmental issues should keep their focuses on influencing those who impact the legislation.  Such as John Dingell, who as Chair of the Energy and Commerce committee is at the forefront of the battle.  Hopefully he will push his fellow legislators to create a bill including the RPS that were left out in December's bill and bring the energy and automotive industries kicking along with him. • Wow. Hopefully people will agree with this...

As stated above, many people underestimate the power of global warming. If they really want to make a change they have to help set the fire under Congress, take a look at http://members.greenpeace.org/hotseat/Michigan/District15 ... to see what an environmental action organization is doing to correct Congress' actions. On Scientist claims that climate models are too conservative in predicting ice loss posted 1 year, 11 months ago 12 Responses

  • Dingell needs to act...

As mentioned in the article, Dingell tends to favor the automotive industry. We also have to recognize that Dingell receives the majority of his campaign money from the energy industry and that is one of the reasons why he voted against the August legislation containing new RES (Renewable Energy Standards).  Is Dingell just pulling our chain this time too? Yes, CAFE standards are important. But those alone will not decrease our carbon emissions by 80% by 2050, as advised by the UN's recent report on global warming/climate change. All the legislators involved in the new bill are being praised for their efforts but this is not completely deserved.  I think we should hold off praise until Congress realizes that the climate is not going to fix itself, and they are the only ones with the power to make industries change their levels of pollution.
