  • The ACUPCC

Great work from all the individual colleges & universities! Just want to share the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) which is working on a collective effort from the entire higher education sector to combat climate disruption. Check it out at http://www.presidentsclimatecommitment.org/ and see if your school has signed on.On 15 Green Colleges and Universities posted 1 year, 1 month ago 62 Responses

  • That's funny

    Wow,

Colbert never ceases to amaze me with his wit and satire. He made Lutz look really bad on national television!

  • of course, it all about ego

So Nader campaigns for president purely on ego. He has no concern for the constitution or democracy and his platform for giving people back their rights and stripping corporations of theirs is all to fuel & feed Mr. Naders ego...

And to be clear, the candidates that we hear from so often, and see on TV, and read about in newpapers, and magazines, and listen to on the radio do not have ego's?

  • Bush's appointment

When will democrats take responsibility for the supreme courts appointment of GW in 2000?

Please stop using Nader as the scapegoat for your loss in 2000. In 2004 as a strategy to combat 3rd party candidates the 2 party system made it more difficult for Nader and others to get on State ballots. Which, obviously didn't work out in the democrats favor. Another option might have been that democrats could have built a campaign that included the issues and values of the unrepresented 3rd party voters. Maybe another 4 years of republican rule will convince democrats that they only have themselves to blame. one last cynical point 3rd party candidates actually represent the people where as the two party system primarily represents the special interests that financially support their campaigns.  So thereOn Ralph Nader criticizes Obama and McCain for not standing strong against offshore drilling posted 1 year, 2 months ago 19 Responses

  • ACUPCC

Michael Crow and Arizona State University are leaders in the national initiative The American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). http://www.presidentsclimatecommitment.org/index.php

This is a high-visibility effort to address global warming by garnering institutional commitments to neutralize greenhouse gas emissions, and to accelerate the research and educational efforts of higher education to equip society to re-stabilize the earth's climate.

Currently 573 institutions representing all 50 States and more than 4.7 million students have signed on. This is a high leverage strategy that is being led by the higher education sector. I applaud ASU and higher education for pushing the envelope. It is time to stop teaching the industrial revolution and time to start teaching/learning sustainable development! On Grist and Arizona State University team up on newsletter for students posted 1 year, 2 months ago 36 Responses

  • but, they are trying...

Wal-mart has been developing strategies to fulfill their sustainable initiatives. They have been working w/ ACT NOW Productions and Adam Werbach to train every single Wal-mart store employee on sustainable development by 2009, that includes approximately 1 million people, plus the rural communities that most of the stores are in. I know that they have reached out to the Natural Step, one of the very few organizations with a comprehensive framework for assessing and planning for sustainable development, as well as, a track record of working with businesses and communities. My point is, we are expecting one of the largest corporations on the planet to become sustainable overnight, when they have to unlearn their business as usual mindset, while at the same time learn all there is to know about sustainable business practice. Lee Scott can't win, he goes public with a far-reaching sustainable vision for his company and gets booed and then admits that he is not their yet and is told, I told you so. We are all victims of the quick fix, short term mindset. This is a collective effort, and we should recognize that Wal-Mart is trying. Full Disclosure: I do not work or shop at wal-mart and I am fully aware of their contribution(s) to an unsustainable society) I am just trying to offer a perspective of how can we serve them rather than to always make them the villain. On CEO settles the debate over whether Wal-Mart is green posted 1 year, 8 months ago 4 Responses
