thanks but...
...I am already familiar with the (potential) hazards of lead poisoning and sources of lead poisoning with children.
Apologies if I was not clear - what I interests me is any kind of study or survey that describes the health of people who had lead poisoning as children -- that is to say, longitudinal studies that follow them 10-20-30 years after their lead poisoning was cleared up.On Umbra on lead and gardens posted 1 year, 7 months ago 8 Responses
lead poisoning
Hey Umbra - do you have a line on any resources that describe the long term effects of lead poisoning? That is to say - what happens to people who had lead poisoning as small children? When they are "cured" - are there any long term effects as they become adults (ie, immune diseases, teeth issues, bone issues, etc)?On Umbra on lead and gardens posted 1 year, 7 months ago 8 Responses
What the people want...
...is so different. I'm just utterly disappointed in the call for removing federal gas tax as though it is a tremendous panacea for our current economic situation.
People pay a lot more for gas in other parts of the world -- it's a travesty how little we do pay. Once we get up to $7-9/gallon (like in England and Italy), people will start thinking about public transportation, working closer to home, using more fuel efficient vehicles.
But cutting taxes to help them maintain their current standards of consumption? What will that help? Enough of this magical thinking already. On McCain, Clinton support summer gas-tax rollback posted 1 year, 7 months ago 17 Responses
HEADLINE: Grist readers are way too serious!
LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE! As soon as my coworker exclaimed "Al Gore is running for President" -- I laughed and had to remind him (even after forwarding him two Google april fools' pranks) that today was april fools day.
Excellent - keep it up. Get rid of all the boring, stuffed-shirt folks who take themselves way too seriously. My goodness, people! On Gore will run for president as independent, sources tell Grist posted 1 year, 8 months ago 34 Responses
yikes!
Gatta - garbage disposal? That just doesn't sound good - all those food scraps could be composted! Putting that stuff down the drain just means that it has to be treated in a sewage treatment plant with so much other waste.
If you have a yard, you can at least bury all your raw veggies scraps. Check with your local waste management company to find out if you can put all food scraps in the "yard waste" bin - even if they don't collect it weekly, if it gets stinky, that's ok - it's composting! On Umbra on trash bags posted 1 year, 8 months ago 21 Responses
I've eliminated plastic bags in the kitchen
...but haven't eliminated them for cleaning the litterbox.
Depending on where you live, you may be able to put all your food scraps (in the Bay Area we have a lot of resources, here's one for Oakland www.stopwaste.org) in the "yard waste" bin.
Fake Plastic Fish is a great blog devoted to reducing the amount of plastic one woman uses in her daily life - lots of great information here:
