  • What?

What in the world? That is the craziest thing I have heard today! How sad.On Canadian lakes set to be reclassified as mining-waste dumps posted 1 year, 5 months ago 8 Responses

  • At least it's a start...

He may not be doing as much as he could/should be, but at least he's doing something! If it gets a lot of people making a few small changes, then it's worth it, in my opinion. On Jason Mraz sings the praises of a simpler life posted 1 year, 6 months ago 4 Responses

  • One more thing to worry about...

Wow, it seems like the toxic ingredients we let our kids play with, eat, etc. just keep growing and growing. What is wrong with our society that this has been okay for so long?

Is it the lotions and shampoos themselves that contain the phthalates? Or is it leaking from the plastic packaging? Why in the world would these products benefit from the phthalates?

I love the Cosmetics Safety Database, it has helped me make decisions on what products to buy many times.

  • Portland

Living in Portland, I would agree that it deserves to be on the list! I think we do a fair job of trying to be green.

PDXistence- I wonder if the police action has more to do with so many accidents involving bicycles than with taking money from their riders? I do agree, though, that if that is the case, they need to go after the drivers of cars much more aggressively than the bikers. On 15 Green Cities posted 1 year, 10 months ago 51 Responses

  • It's Not Easy Being Green

So far we still have a lawn, but no chemicals or water (except rain) is ever used on it. Eventually we'll get rid of most of it at least.

No commute; we both work from home.

Luckily we live within walking distance of the library and several shops and restaurants.

    Recycling is huge for us!

Replaced all burned out lightbulbs with CFLs.

Pay extra for energy usage to support renewable energy and salmon protection.

    No meat.

Try to buy organic foods with our reusable shopping bags.

    I'm sure there's more, but it's a start!

  • McDonald's Marketing

It is such a sad time when our schools allow so much marketing from companies that have helped create the obesity problem in children.

My 4 year old finally had his first visit to a McDonald's a couple of weeks ago (of course he calls it Old MacDonald's) with his grandma. They went for the indoor playground and bought an ice cream cone in order to do that. Luckily for me he is way more interested in the playground than the food. I hate to think of what he'll be bombarded with when he's in school!

  • Animal-Friendly vs. Eco-Friendly

I think it's great that she wants to bring her celebrity to a cause she must hold very dear after being a vegan for "several months" as she was quoted in People magazine. I have to wonder how much choice she was given regarding style and where the donated proceeds would go. I think celebrity's often lend their name to things they actually don't have much input in.

I also wonder what materials were actually used. With small exception, most non-leather shoes are made with PVC. Not exactly the most eco-friendly material. So what's more important?
