quote of the day
I overheard a sales rep. at my work making small talk in the lobby with an employee when the sales rep. said "it's like the climate is changing" in reference to a part of the country getting more rain then in the past.

We need to stop fighting about 'if' it's happening and do something about it.
People don't want to admit we caused it and they don't want to see any proof that it is happening.
So lets move on to figuring out ways to alter the causes. It all comes down to the way we live. The large portions of the CO2 emissions are commercial and out of our control, for the most part. However, I would like to see many more earth friendly practices becoming common place as recycling FINALLY has (at least in my area). Bring on the hybrid cars, real ones, not the fakes that shut down a valve or two while cruising. There is a difference between good mileage and a hybrid! sorry...kinda got off topicOn Deck chairs on the Titanic posted 4 years, 10 months ago 3 ResponsesEven if it is happening, it ain't gonna work
I fear that people will never understand global climate change and all the related issues.
I admit that I don't fully understand it.
But I believe that something is wrong and we caused it.
This is where most people get hung up, so lets not make them take credit for it. We need to move on, to create 'greener' technology. To use the understanding that a few scienctists do have and make a plan of action - not related to killing more people for oil.On More shadowboxing posted 4 years, 10 months ago 2 ResponsesIs one death better than the other
From what I've read we really don't know the full effects of DDT on our earth.
We know it's bad for living creatures and that it has managed to stick around in our environment for decades.
By saving people from malaria now, how do we know we won't be poisoning future generations causing them to suffer in the future? Do we want to keep people alive on poisoned earth so that the future generations can start out with low birth rates only to grow into developing some kind of cancer at a young age?

I believe the human ego, whatever source it may come from, is the biggest problem.
I was raised catholic, so that what I base my arguement on. We were taught that the earth is ours. Whatever we need we take. If we don't need an animal or plant species that maybe it should go extinct.
This way of thinking makes my stomach turn. What if evolution isn't about us? What if we are just a stepping stone in this planets history? Another ice age comes and another intelligent species evolves.
I believe in technology, it is all we have. The application of science. For people in our society to give up creature comforts is not going to happen (even I admit I don't know if I could do it).
But I do agree a change to the basic mindset would really help...

this is one of my favorite misconceptions, it allows for people to not believe they are affected by the environment around them.
It is explained very well in the book Ishmael by Daniel Quinn.
To sum it up briefly, humans feel the need to conquer the earth.
In attempting to do this we have broken the most basic law of nature and do not fear any repercussions for breaking this law, because humans are not animals and do not need to heed the laws of nature. On Priorities for a Healthy ... zzz ... posted 4 years, 10 months ago 3 Responsesour society
So you do admit that you need certain things to live in our society. You can do without a cell phone or a car, but not a computer.
Don't you want to see a 'greener' way to create the energy that you must use for your job?
Technology: The application of science, especially to industrial or commercial objectives.
We have destroyed our environment, the least we can do now is step back and use technology to attempt to make less of an impact in the future. On Waste to energy posted 4 years, 10 months ago 6 Responses
