McCain half-assed on climate
Proposing a non-mandatory cap on GHG emissions is just half-assed. I'm worried that no matter who wins they won't do enough to address an issue that America is clearly a day late and a dollar short on. If we as the world's leader in oil consumption and GHG emissions do not take serious measures to change our position we will be screwed. There is no "fixing" the West Antarctic Ice Sheet once it has collapsed and there should be no half-measures proposed by anyone who takes this issue seriously. If you don't demand the a solution that fixes the problem you will never get one.On How strong is McCain's commitment to fighting global warming? posted 1 year, 9 months ago 16 Responses
Up to here
Maybe after a few years of stewing in the collective crock of crap we are in will soften the dense skulls of environmental detractors. Maybe then some bits of scientifically sound information will eek it's way in through osmosis. Maybe then it will be too late. I am tired of always hearing the same lies and BS from people who regurgitate it ad nauseum. Just because you are too lazy to investigate both sides for yourself and develop your own understanding of the situation doesn't make you right. You don't have to be crazy to actually consider that what the other side might in fact be right and make your own determination based on the MOST ACCURATE information at your disposal.
I'll be damned if it wasn't the widely disseminated truth that a shipment of aluminum tubes constituted evidence of WMD's a few years ago when I was saying that was BS too.On How strong is McCain's commitment to fighting global warming? posted 1 year, 9 months ago 16 Responses
Hey - and Hagel is here too
Wow - Chuck Hagel is in your documentary too (4:23 time mark in Part 1). This seems to in fact back up my commentary on Sara Hessenflow Harper above. Smoke and mirrors does not an argument make.On How strong is McCain's commitment to fighting global warming? posted 1 year, 9 months ago 16 Responses
Still think I'm full of it?
Go back and look at your documentary (specifically the 3:20 time mark in Part 1)- Tim Ball is stated as being a part of the Dept of Climatology at the University of Winnipeg. He has not been a part of that dept since 1996. Don't believe me - look for yourself:

Ugh - another one
Ever notice how all those "documentaries" about climate change being BS have the same handfull of people in them and they are produced by the same institutions?
I will go over one of the groups and one of the people here. I could go on and I could debunk the whole freaken documentary but my patience for stupid people is wearing thin.
Tim Ball is one of the handfull of shills who are regularly dusted off and paraded around by conservatives as a dissenting scientist. Keep an eye peeled for his shiny cranium the next time you see a "Global warming is a sham to steal all of your money through taxes" expose.

He is also one of the founders of "Friends of Science"

Dispite his claims to the contrary in Glenn Beck's Exposed: Climate of Fear - Ball regularly recieves oil industry funding.
BALL: "If I had gone along with the prevailing wisdom, the funding would have been enormous. Instead, I`m accused of getting the money from the oil company, which is simply a lie."
Cry me a river - I don't for a second believe you are soo persecuted as a skeptic "because the other 99% of the scientific community is just plain greedy and corruptible." - WAH! The reason Ball is not IN the scientific community is he hasn't published anything since 1996. That's 12 years of sucking on the oily teat without any research contribution. The research he did do was to study climate change based off of Hudson Bay Company and other historical Canadian records from 1714-1910. Giving him ZERO experience with current climate models or anything related to THE LAST HUNDRED YEARS.
You may not receive it directly Ball - but founding the funding group "Friends of Science" to receive the funds and then giving them to yourself does not change the origin of the money.
I'll leave you with this:

How quick are you to point at a money trail. On your website you admit to work as a political consultant for two Republican senators who have supported McCain for quite some time:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/04/washington/04mavericks. ...
The main line of contention which has divided Hagel and McCain recently is that McCain would prefer to continue the war on Iraq. I congratulate Hagel for his courage on this issue. Since you are lead foreign policy and national security advisor for Sen. Brownback focusing on the Middle East and China you are fully aware of his stance on this matter and how it mirrors McCain's. Extension of military activities in Iraq is central to our continued dependence on oil. We were talking about the environment correct? Frankly Hagel and Brownback's environmental stances are pathetic:
http://www.ontheissues.org/Sam_Brownback.htm
http://www.ontheissues.org/Chuck_Hagel.htm
Your advice based on your Masters' degree in speech communication and rhetoric is clearly outlined on your website and has led to these stances. Just as McCain you admit Climate Change is a problem but with the same breath suggest half-hearted solutions. Go blow smoke somewhere else.
Our current political process is in desperate need of reform. Until this itself is addressed there will always be money trails on both sides of the isle from corporations. What I care about is addressing the greater problem of preventing the non-linear climate change predicted by NASA. Dr. Hansen has made it perfectly clear that he expects the collapse of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet sometime around 2016. The significance of this event would have catastrophic effects for all people on earth. Yet it is clearly not important to those whose pockets are lined by continuation of current energy policies. With our outlook at 2016 as the point of no return throwing out 2025 or 2050 as the goal date is borderline masochistic.
I am just an engineer in the industry - what could I know - I don't make the big bucks. Oh wait - I ENGINEER THE SOLUTIONS. While I do make money in the industry I have worked on BOTH alternative and conventional projects - currently they are still BY FAR mostly conventional. I can go either way with my source of income. I will not shut-up and compromise on the future of our planet any longer for corporate gain. In my opinion the cost is too high. McCain talks the good talk but is still too weak on environmental concerns. If it would be political suicide to take a stronger stance - well that sounds like a party problem to me.On How strong is McCain's commitment to fighting global warming? posted 1 year, 9 months ago 16 Responses
Pinning a leaf to your lapel does't make you green
Face it - No "real" Republican can deal with this problem at this point. The problem is too big for their closed minds to wrap around. The idea that we must give up high-yield energy sources for low-yield energy sources before the prices pass each other is INSANE to them. The idea that this must happen quickly racks up dollar signs in their head and they want to lessen the blow by stretching out the cost. The simple fact is we have 10 years to build a solution (based on the NASA report), it is going to be expensive, it IS necessary, and the public coffers have already been looted by Bush.
It is time for the Democrats to come back and clean up the mess. This is a full-fledged cluster-fuck situation in just about every sense and on every front. So far I haven't seen anyone other than Edwards who had a plan close to workable. Hopefully he will team up with Obama and come up with a date that doesn't end with 50 as an answer.
If you don't know about the NASA report I speak of please see this post on my blog:
