Water!
I'd love to see Grist and Gristmill pay more attention to water issues (clean water; water scarcity; the health of rivers/streams; water privatization).
As they say, water will be the oil of the 21st century...On Help Grist and Gristmill improve posted 3 years, 5 months ago 27 Responses

Sticking up for hunters
A word for the hunters -- My husband hunts upland birds like grouse and pheasant and he is neither "beer swilling" nor "pot-bellied". In fact, he is the most passionate environmentalist I know and has worked to protect land and water for his entire professional career. I've never met anyone who cares about rivers, clean water, wilderness, and fish & wildlife more. Good hunters (and yeah, there are some bad hunters out there) have a true conservation ethic.

Earth to America special
People - just be happy that there was a two-hour long special about global warming on TV. We (enviros) tend to be so picky. I thought most of it was funny. It's a start, a step in bringing this issue into mainstream thinking.
Will Ferrell was great in his Bush impression. While Faith Hill and Tim McGraw weren't the best/funniest part of the show, I did think it was good to include these traditionally "red-state" stars. On How did the comedy special on global warming do? posted 4 years ago 4 Responses

Watch out for Hydropower (title 2)
The Energy Bill's hydropower provision (title 2) isn't posted on the Senate Energy Committee's web site yet, but keep an eye out for it.
The hydro title would give power companies special privileges and essentially silence the voices of fishermen, American Indian tribes, hikers, boaters, and the public at large when it comes to decisions about our rivers.

the pitch
Here are two takes...
Take 1 -
Conservation is about health. We are our environment: the air we breathe, the water we drink. The health of our bodies, spirits, economies and communities depends on a healthy environment.Take 2 -
Conservation is about improving lives. It's about the safety of air and water... the health of communities and economies... and places where families reconnect with the earth and each other.
