Statistics are more helpful when in context
I'm assuming that sales for all vehicles fell in November? Can you please compare these stats to the stats for car sales in general? Or to sales stats of other popular cars?On Sales of popular hybrid vehicles plunged in November posted 11 months, 3 weeks ago 6 Responses
I don't like the Method dish soap
We use the green stuff and everything tastes like the dish soap after. Yes, we rinse (as we do with other products), but that stuff doesn't rinse off easily. I like their hand soap & general spray cleaner. On Umbra on Method cleansers posted 1 year, 3 months ago 23 Responses
US should follow EU's lead
The EU has implemented regulation (REACH) that will test & regulate chemicals (what a concept!). In the good old US, we depend on industry to self regulate which is why we have all these chemicals are in our environment & bodies. I read that someone tested remote tribes in the Amazon rainforest who also have these chemicals in their bodies too--they're everywhere and they cause disease, but our govt is bought by industry so no regulation here! Rather than buying dubious footpads, contact your legislators and join environmental watchdogs that fight for common sense regulation.

Agave
Or you could try agave nectar--it's amazing stuff, which I think you can get organic.
Farmers markets sometimes have locally produced bee vomit--Oops--I meant honey. On Umbra on organic honey posted 1 year, 8 months ago 19 Responses
how much petroleum to make one fleece?
Did someone answer that? Sorry if I missed it, but I'd like to know.On Umbra on (inherited) fur coats posted 1 year, 10 months ago 60 Responses
also struggling
I have 2 furs from my great aunt (and an ivory necklace & earrings--ugh). I will absolutely NOT wear them (or the ivory), but the furs are sentimental and I'm really torn about giving them to recovering animals due to the sentimental value and wondering if my anut would roll over in her grave.
Personally, I wouldn't want anyone else to wear them so I won't donate them. I literally look at them every day, wonder how modern humanity can be so cruel in the name of "fashion", and also wonder what they hell I'll do with them. I don't think a teddy bear or pillows will do...
I am very curious, how much petroleum does it take to make 1 butt length coat with shell & liner? It is not enough for me to know that it's from petroleum--approximately how much petroleum are we talking about? I try to make fully informed decisions. Thanks. On Umbra on (inherited) fur coats posted 1 year, 10 months ago 60 Responses
Chicago does collect paint...
The City of Chicago runs the Household Chemicals & Computer Recycling Facility at 1150 N. North Branch (Goose Island near Division & Halsted) which accepts some hazardous materials such as oil-based paints, thinners, areosal paints, solvents, etc, etc.
Personally, I think retailers should help collect used paint--if they can help sell it, they should help clean it up by offering to collect & properly dispose of it. I've seen paint lining street drains where people have poured it down the sewer...nice...
FYI--Green Maker sells American Pride which is no VOC, I think.
Here's the city's link & there's also a link for a paint exchange - http://egov.cityofchicago.org/city/webportal/portalDeptCa ... On Umbra on paint disposal posted 1 year, 11 months ago 4 Responses
yuck
Since it's unhealthy in the first place & also hard to dispose of, why don't people just cut back on frying stuff or stop frying all together? I haven't fried anything at home in at least 10 years and my cholesterol, waistline and garbage dumps are better off for it.On Umbra on used cooking oil posted 2 years ago 12 Responses
Rosalux - great answer!
I'm grown & kidless, but how can I tell my inlaws delicately about the gift issue? I'm so sick of "random crap" for my b-day & holidays, but they're nice & generous people so I don't know what to do!
As for kids, I disagree w/Umbra on this one, but since I have none, that's easy for me to do. Agree w/kbrewer above & Miss Manners needs to step into the 21st century--she probably has stock in Mattell.

better than building a new marriott!
Glamping uses less resources than building a resort to house these folks. I think it's wimpy & a huge waste of money, but if it's helping conserve land from development--fine by me.On aka 'glamping' posted 2 years, 3 months ago 5 Responses
