Most of the comments are incredibly naive. You can't use "better city planning" to cope with a half billion people. Look at India or any other extremely overcrowded country.  And to say that these organizations have an "unnuanced understanding of the problems of population growth", I guess that would mean they aren't welcoming all the poor people that don't use family planning? Billions live in slums throughout the planet now, and that is what we will have extending for miles from each urban core. To say that we don't want that outcome as a country is selfish? I would hope that what little open space that is left, what little water resources that we have remaining, and the species that depend on those resources would be more important to "environmentalists" than making corporate America happy with an ongoing supply of cheap labor from corrupt countries. • wic makes me sic

It's bad enough that we're subsidizing people's bad reproductive choices, but here in Mesa Arizona the farmers market line is half illegal immigrants participating in the programme de wic(pregnant, of course, with an already large family of anchor babies as well) so we get to subsidize the Catholic church's call for more members. I will never spend another penny at a farmers market that is subsidized by wic. On Evidently, women, infants, and children in need don't deserve organic posted 1 year, 6 months ago 8 Responses

  • smart growth my rear end

There is no smart growth or sustainability when all my neighbors are having 5 kids and half the country is moving here. There will be "solutions" but as usual the solution (which is never mentioned by the politically correct) is less people. This place will be a true hell hole in 20 years and many of us would move now but because of the stupid conditions brought about by the same people who want "growth", we can't.

  • the navy's role in our future

Read "Blue Frontier" there's a section on the Navy. Nothing will stand in their way they are preparing for the last world war. Interesting thought. On Bush exempts Navy from environmental law in ongoing sonar saga posted 1 year, 10 months ago 9 Responses

  • the great outdoors kills neighbors cats

Recently 2 very small cats were listed as missing in my neighborhood. As I walk my dogs in the morning I see a hawk swirling over our back yards. The ultimate revenge. Bird Eats Cat!On Umbra on cats and birds posted 2 years ago 72 Responses

  • overpopulation

It's not unsustainable lifestyles, it's unsustainable population growth. There are water shortages all over the country because there are too many people. What good is it to save water if your neighbor is going to have 4 kids?
The funny thing is that Scottsdale Az. is pretty much full of Chicagoans and other midwesterners who have no clue there's a problem with water in the desert. On Race to make the Earth look like the Moon posted 2 years, 1 month ago 4 Responses

  • it's the environment that matters

I see the environmental movement has truly been infiltrated by people with other agendas other than the environment. Yes there are many other ways to control immigration but none of you would ever agree to any of those methods either. The population of the US will soon be 400 million and that apparently doesn't matter. And please don't use stupid words like "bigot" and "racist" give me a break. I live in Arizona and see the effects of the uneducated masses living here every day. Sorry, kids, this is our country, and we cannot afford to have the 5 billion people that live on less than $1 a day move here, nor the millions of Mexicans from their far richer country. On Chertoff lies, wildlife dies posted 2 years, 1 month ago 7 Responses

  • invaders vs wildlife

The author apparently loves the invasion of foreigners from the south, and is ready to let millions of acres of land be developed and many other species go extinct. And the foreigners from the south with 6th grade educations don't give a you know what about the environment or wildlife. On Chertoff lies, wildlife dies posted 2 years, 1 month ago 7 Responses

  • immigration is the worst environmental offender

The number of species that will go extinct, and the loss of millions of acres of open space with an added 100 million people due to immigration, is so much worse than what will happen building the wall. The Arizona border is now a giant trash heap. Yeah let's promote "global" population stabilization while the few remaining acres of pristine land in the US gets trampled or developed. Employer sanctions will help, but people with sixth grade educations, a corrupt government, and a church that tells them not to use birth control will continue to come here. I don't give money to environmental groups anymore, because they refuse to promote population stabilization in this country. On Why environmental groups have been slow to fight the border wall posted 2 years, 1 month ago 38 Responses

  • Indonesia and anywhere

Better progress and smarter development won't help the fact that Indonesia's population will be over 400 million in a few years. Where will they live? Why does the environmental movement continue to be politically correct as the world dies?  Read "The Environmental Movement's Retreat from Advocating U.S. Population Stabilization (1970-1998): A First Draft of History" it applies to any country. And it's more important then the End Timers. On Dear Patricia J. Sadowski of Whitefish Bay, Wis., posted 4 years, 10 months ago 8 Responses

  • Ford Foundation, Kathryn Fuller

No wonder the environment will never get better. You guys are worried about Bush but  the BIG worry is people like Kathryn Fuller, the Ford Foundation and everyone else that is only really interested in global trade and global big bucks. The environmental movement, just like the immigration/population movement, has to come to grips with the amount of money and power that is the enemy.  On Worldwatch kerfuffle posted 5 years ago 4 Responses
