  • Thanks for the unexpected gift!

    Joe,
I think our therapy sessions on this blog have produced a breakthrough, though you have clearly gone off the alarmist reservation with some amazing concessions:

    1. Many wild predictions of sea rise may not be true.  You post a graph that shows 3.3mm/yr sea rise, and call it a crisis.  That's about 11 inches by 2100.  This is a new kind of alarmism, Oceanoholmesophobia, the fear of catastrophe resulting from the sea rising the equivalent length of deceased porn star John Holmes' moneymaker, over 90 years!

    2. Tech breakthroughs may not in fact result from banning existing tech.  This is off the reservation, because ban-firsters uniformly claim that the breakthroughs in tech are just waiting for the bans, and they will immediately hit the market.  I expect you will get a call from the Pope or one of his cardinals when he gets back from warming the air in Poznan.

    3. You admit scientific consensus is in fact, not achieved on armageddonistic AGW.  This one will really get your chestnuts roasted on an open fire.

With your new concessions, I cannot see the doom. Thanks for the early present, Joe.  Now I have to run out and try and find you an organic fruit basket....did you hear it's snowing in New Orleans?   Have a white and cold and environmentally merry Xmas!

  • Habitats for Terraflagraphobes

Terraflagraphobia is the fear of the Earth exploding into an immense fireball because evil humans drive cars.  The symptoms are 1) skepdignation, irrational animus for persons who are skeptical of global incineration, and 2) greenophilia, involuntary sexual arousal upon viewing plant leaves move in the wind.

These suffering people stagger through the day, lurching from making nonsensical dogmatic pronouncements of doom and wrathful condemnation of greenphemers, to public masturbation in front of lilac bushes.

We propose to sedate and detain these people in a humane and dignified manner, and create special habitats for them, where fake news stories of mass utopian conversion to an idyllic nativism are piped in through televisions, and the guests are free to pleasure themselves in a lush meadow of flora to their heart's content.

Please donate to this worthy cause at  HabitatsforTerraflagraphobes.org.

Can't take a little righteous indignation?  I'd be honored to be banned by such a distinguished ludd.  You'd be making my point: to the ludds, freedom only valid if it is practiced within the state's egalitarian policies.

  • A 1st! Luddhunter agrees w/Romm:Call Dr. Kevorkian

Ditto Romm on not trusting the big 3 with our money, but not for the same reason.  First time we've agreed on anything. But Joe is a ludd who has a utopian vision of clean tech everywhere, who would rather everyone have NO tech rather than any "dirty" tech.

It is Joe and other ludds' onerous rapulations which helped the big 3 accelerate to the brink.  It is Joe and other ludds' appeasement of union extortion which created an unsustainable cost vector.
It is Joe and other ludds' prevention of national oil exploration and refinement that drove up gas prices and killed demand.

Let them die.  They appear willing to die on their knees, hands out, begging pathetically.  Better to call Dr. Kevorkian now, and declare bankruptcy, and let foreign companies buy the profitable divisions.

I must rant on the bailout mentality.

The statist handout begging whiners from the left and the rightwing-monopolist-oligarch-sucking punks must be creaming in teir collectivist/fascistic jeans over these daily bailout calls.  This is the 72 green smelly virgins they dreamt of when their pillowbiting Knight in Shimmery Satin, Barney Frank, and his p_ss-boy Chris Dodd, and the libertarian-in-name-only Alan Greenspan aided the sabotage of the housing market years ago.  The inevitable socialist/fascist bailout coup going on now must be like a never-ending orgasm for the Leviathan-knob-slobbers.  Pelosi and Obama want to bail them out.  Typical bleeding __ss appeasement of failure.

F_ckin parasites, all of them. But be careful what you wish for. There is only so much tax extortion money you can use.  They can't bail out every bloated, overregulated, govt co-opted, union-slacker-infested dinosaur company.  They should die a horrible death, with screwdriver turning union idiots losing their 45$/hr jobs that would be $10/hr in a free market, and losing their pensions, and having to work their last 5 years for Toyota at 1/3 the pay.  Justice served for parasiting for so many years.

They are now begging to suckle Mommy Government fearing that they will have to get a real job.  Makes me f_ckin sick to watch the begging or the suckling.  Good thing the founders are dead and don't have to watch what sissified losers half of us have become.

  • Bailout THIS

Ditto jabailo on capitalists, but pouring money into green tech only makes sense where science-intensive basic research is needed to validate promising theoretical technology, such as high-yield solar cells.

And when the money runs out, the useless unionized b_stards might just have to compete and add value to stay employed.  Or do they all still run to their mommies and breast-feed when for comfort when they worry about having to get a real job?

  • You're Spinnin' me Falcon

Major scientific institutions take that position in their brochures to show solidarity in the need to keep funding coming from government, but the science, as I showed, does not support catastrophe.  Even the brochures do not clearly predict Armageddon...the AGW vagueness is used to IMPLY its possibility, thereby fulfilling the unwritten scare requirement for the next round of funding.  Just like the 6 o'clock news organizations don't openly admit they NEED to scare people to get viewers, but it's an open fact in the news editors' room.

How we horrible humans, the scourge of Mother Earth, might be causing small temp leanings upward is a much different question.

Your claim of temp rise in the last few decades is technically correct, but not significant.

    http://dreadnaught.wordpress.com/2007/08/09/warmest-year- ...

Notice in the NASA link there are several negative deviations from the mean since 1960, and the spike in 1998 is on par with other outliers like 1934 and 1921.  This data is not scary, Count Floyd (SCTV reference).

Not enough to chike an economy over.

Sea life impact is yet another issue.  I'm not for killing plankton, but again, not an imminent catastrophe.  The oil-funded psychos in the Middle East are enough motivation for me and other tech types to support and work on alternative technologies, but I don't want a subsidy, and I don't want to ban existing tech to make mine more desirable.  I want it to succeed in the market on its own merits. On GM flack misuses Thomas Kuhn's philosophy of science (!) to defend Lutz climate skepticism posted 1 year, 2 months ago 12 Responses

  • Easy refute

    Ludd GreyFalcon,

    1.From your Gristmill link:
"Because understanding of some important effects driving sea level rise is too limited, this report does not assess the likelihood, nor provide a best estimate or an upper bound for sea level rise."

This could not have been written by a self-respecting scientist.  The "best" estimate is ALWAYS based on "understanding" what the hell you're studying, that is, by a peer-reviewed and repeatable procedure for generating predictive algorithms. So this was written by an advocate who is spinning the scientific conclusion (to divert the target audience's attention from reading the actual prediction) to appease the AGW leaders (not scientists) who NEED the DOOM scenario to get attention and money.

    2. "The projections do not include uncertainties in climate-carbon cycle feedbacks nor the full effects of changes in ice sheet flow, therefore the upper values of the ranges are not to be considered upper bounds for sea level rise."

Again, more apology for not getting the DOOM answer the leaders wanted.  These desired feedback factors are POSITIVE feedback factors that are simply not supported by the geological record.  (see climate-skeptic.org for more on this positive feedback fudge factor that the alarmists rely on).

    3. A night burglar with a decent dayjob is still a thief.  If you advocate banning or regulating existing technologies without a credible proof of danger, no matter how altrusitic and self-flagellating your motivation, or how many alternate technologies you support, you are a LUDD. You hurt more than help.   You are a thief of technological freedom by use of scare tactics and perhaps junk science.  You are parasitic. I am spraying you with Ludd-formulated RAID now:

  • Anti-Rational? Let Me Blasheme on this claim, too

    Roberts:

Typical of an AGW crackpot to call the kettle black.  AGW leaders are irrationally incoherent on their DOOM data, and dogmatic in calling any skeptic over the huge discrepancies in the DOOM data a "denier".  Denier = Blasphemer in this usage of the word.

Isn't a hallmark of cultism for cult leaders to make cataclysmic predictions of the end of the world (Al Gore "20 foot sea level rise", and James Hansen - "24-METER rise"!), all the while the IPCC (the most oft-cited "objective" org to study AGW) predicts only 7 to 24 INCHES of rise  [ http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/jul/14/clima ... ]

...get your story straight if your going to get more to join your cult!

Isn't it a hallmark of cultism for the leadership to ignore these massive inconsistencies and discourage questioning the main AGW Fanatic claim: DOOM!!, UNLESS THOU REPENTEST THY BLASPHEMY OF SKEPTICISM OF DOOM!!
Thou shalt not emit carbon!  Thou shalt not use energy that is produced by carbon-emitting technology! Thou shalt conserve!  Thou shalt recycle!  Thou shalt save the planet!

Guess what.  The planet is not alive.  But people can die.  The best thing to save people is TECHNOLOGY AND WEALTH.  So you can build a stronger house, and have a TV to warn of storms, and car to evacuate when they come, and enough money to stay in a hotel until the storm passes, and enoguh to buy insurance to replace your house if it is destroyed.  That is survival.  Going Green is going towards DEATH, not away from it. THAT has been empirically proven, you little green socialist egalitarian anti-technology turd-eater.  That's where we will end up if we follow the green logic, right back in the cave, hungry, cold, and picking edible bits out of the turds of bears, who will rise to the top of the food chain because of Ludd policies that reverse evolution.

You're a parasite, Roberts.  Though you hate technology, I hope you use birth control, because we don't need more Ludds dragging us down.  Just so I'm ready to return to cave life, what kind of leaves work best for ass-wiping?On GM flack misuses Thomas Kuhn's philosophy of science (!) to defend Lutz climate skepticism posted 1 year, 2 months ago 12 Responses

  • Competition needed, Ludds not needed

    vakibs

Let's assume your numbers are right on R&D spending by the largest energy companies.

If so, then the largest energy companies would be not advancing their tech much.  If there was pure competition for energy consumers, then they would eventually lose business.

Now the great plain of power competition I'm talking about is something that can only emerge if two major changes happen:

    1. The Dems need to allow drilling, nukes, natural gas and coal power plants to be built.

    2. The wholesale and retail electricity markets need to be regulated just enough to make sure there are no unnecessary barriers to entry by small power companies or even individuals putting self-generated power back on the grid. The current regulation seems to work well after tweaks were made after the Enron debacle, but there are still some excessive barriers to entry.

I'm sure Obama has no credible plans to make headway on #1, and I don't trust him to not try and screw up our de-regulated markets in order to nationalize them again. He talks about clean/renewable/efficient tech, but his path to them is to 1) ban or overregulate existing tech, and 2) throw millions at energy research and subsidies which actually juist screws up the natural emergence of new power tech which is already in plenty of demand.

BTW, the people who say that "we must lower demand" for power, are talking about imposing bans/regs/taxes etc without new power tech to replace the disincentived techs.  This is nearly pure Luddism.  The next step is to invade their homes and break their electrical devices.  You Ludds won't be happy until we're all back in the caves and trees eating lice out of each others butthair.

  • Vakibs, extrapolation will make you go blind

Also, extrapolation in public is illegal in most states.  Just ask Pee Wee Herman.

    1. I never said the price will drop a lot.  I said if supply is increased, prices will drop, or at least rise slower than they would have without increasing supply.  This is like trying to teach arithmetic to someone who doesn't believe in the concept of zero.  Why do Ludds try and spin something as rock-solid as supply and demand?

    2. I never said drilling should be the main strategy.  I'm an all of the above guy, as long as subsidies and unreasonable regs are eliminated, and the energy techs can fight it out on the great plain of competition (a dirty word to Ludds, I know)

    3. Yes I care about profits, because profits are the fuel of businesses and workers.  If costs go up and revenues stagnate, worker and business profits go down, and savings/investment is less and/or assets must be sold (negative growth).  If you're anti-profit, you're anti-capitalism, and anti-growth, and anti-survival (as growth is critical to human survival).  If you're suggesting (American) oil companies collaborate to hold prices artificially high, then prove it.  No one else has been able to.  The real monopolists are OPEC, they intentionally restrict oil supply to improve the cartel's wealth.

Can you post a picture of you extrapolating to the poster of Karl Marx over your bed?  I'm into Ludd kink.On Some enviros self-censor, but should progressives? posted 1 year, 2 months ago 29 Responses
  • Joe Romm, Zealous Propagandist

    Sam Wells,
You got it right.  Joe's "deep-seated" beliefs are irrefutable in his world.

Joe spiked two of four of my posts on his blog yesterday, clumsily trying to brush off my citations of opposing science to his hurricane dogma as "not germane".

See my full posts on luddhunter.wordpress.com.

Joe's post here is much more ideologically charged, betraying a fervent alarmism and radical anti-growth agenda:

    1. His frequest use of the term "denier" could easily be replaced with the word "blasphemer" without losing any meaning or intent of his diatribe.

    2. His economic arguments make no sense.  Econ 101 Joe: You increase supply of oil and oil prices go down.  It is a hallmark of dogmatism that the high priests expect to say black is white and up is down without challenge, then cry "heretic!" and attempt censorship when they do get challenged.

    3. Joe's ridiculous warning of 6-12 inches of sea rise per decade is well beyond the claim of the alarmists' main source, the IPCC.

Methinks Joe is an anti-growth Ludd of the first degree, a scientist who has sold out and become radicalized by ideological zanies who envision a utopian natitivistic return to the good ol days before we invented tools and ruined Mother Earth.

His radical leanings are obvious.  Let us leave Joe's chapel before he locks the doors and tries to strap the unconverted to the Spiked Chair of Green Truth. On Some enviros self-censor, but should progressives? posted 1 year, 2 months ago 29 Responses
