  • So it's not a coffin - duh

Because we've killed enough kids with this appliance.  They crawl in, door closes, they die.

  • Heat

I saw the author on the Frontline special 'Heat'.

As I watched it, I felt like the soldier in 'Saving Private Ryan' who is slowly stabbed to death while watching/struggling with the killer.  The indescribable stupidity of it all leaves me without words.

    Thanks for your good work.

  • Drill now

Seem ironic that McCain's off-shore drilling is, once again, getting torn up by mother nature.  Yet more proof it's a bad idea.

but I liked it too.  Maybe to 'We are the World'ish, but not bad.

  • So what's your solution?

Two things rub me wrong about this post.

    1.  The attitude that only a 100% perfect solution is acceptable even though it will never exist.  Even if everyone grew their own food, food born illness would still exist.  You just wouldn't have big headlines pointing to a single source.  Just look at how we tolerate annual vehicle deaths and flu deaths, but go postal over smaller death tolls like this.

    2.  The use of statements like "irradiated foods can lose from 2-95 percent of their vitamins".  2-95%...  Really...  Could you be more vague?

Personally, if there was a sticker on the product stating it was irradiated, then let the consumer decide.  And yes, given the choice, I'd choose the irradiated.  I wish they made a home model!

  • Simple argument against #2

To argue against #2, just say "That's a big government solution.  Let the markets work."

I love AB, but he's a friggin' CHEF on the FoodTV network!  He's not running for public office!  Who CARES what he thinks about GP?

    Honestly, get a life.

  • No Diesel Hybrid

I did some more digging and spoke too soon.  VW has a diesel hybrid Golf demo vehicle, but have recanted and will not produce it.  Too expensive.  Sad.

  • Throwing out the baby with the bath water

I own a VW Jetta (diesel) that gets 45mpg highway.  Granted, I love a Prius, but to only compare diesel to a Prius is simply ignoring the rest of the pack.  You're stacking the deck.

Compare diesel to non-hybrids and the numbers change.  Not everybody can buy a Prius!

I've also heard VW is making a 69mpg diesel hybrid soon (but not selling it in the US, go figure).  I'm betting a 69mpg diesel hybrid will beat the Prius.  So then we'll have to junk our Prius and buy all new...  Well, you see where I'm going...

  • Why delay/deny?

When considering someone's argument, I like to consider their motives.  It seems to me that maintaining the status quo is insufficient to support a delay/deny position.  How many apples have to hit you on the head before you accept gravity?

I suspect that delayers/deniers are really acting in their own interest in an effort to profit from the coming change.  They need time to figure out where to put their money so they come out on top (as they are now.)

Right now, the market has few players.  Coal, oil, gas, nukes.  The stunning array of potential solutions, all of which will be needed, presents tough diversification choices.  So many wedges!

Deniers/delayers are going to lose in a big way if things move to fast.  They want to be in a position steer money to the solutions they have positioned themselves in.  They just can't make the big money with so many alternatives.  They have no control, yet.

Once they have themselves positioned for the change, they'll flip.

    Thoughts?
