  • Coal or Nuclear

I have heard the argument if you are against coal you have to be for nuclear and if you are against nuclear you have to be for coal. The reasoning is they are the only two technologies that can provide the needed baseload and that solar, wind, geothermal can only provide peak. Any thoughts on this argument? On The Biden-Obama position on 'clean coal' is not a mistake posted 1 year, 1 month ago 50 Responses

Are the trolls and deniers (one in the same it appears) on this site all so self centered?  No real facts so they attack other posters. How sad.On Gallup polls indicate that Republicans are less likely to recognize global warming posted 1 year, 2 months ago 52 Responses

  • If?

While an invasive might not be a predator, how do you know it is not a predator or if it will be beneficial?  Or does not carry parasites or disease that will devastate natives?  When is the last time you saw an eastern chestnut or hemlock tree?  Your article is a bit loose and flippant about the risks. • Wiscidea, My Apologies As Well

Sorry for my knee jerk reaction to what seemed like yet another slam to enviornmentalists. I have heard environmentalists blamed for a huge number of things and being the 'bad people' for so long it finally welled up. Thank you for your clarification.

  • Photovoltaic Systems

First, I am an environmentalist and I do not feel deserts are barren wastelands!

Second, I do not support big solar installations destruction of desert lands by these installations or the infrastructure needed by them.

Third, I do support solar panels on rooftops. I have both solar PV and solar hot water on my roof.  Do you or do you just blow hot air about it?

Fourth, Try not to make sweeping assertions as you will find you are wrong most of the time.

  • Re: Invest Instead of Whining

Using a broad brush and injecting falsehoods to back up your statements shows a lack of knowledge and honest discourse.

Do a little research where the hemp comes from.  Hint: It isn't the US.  Try understanding "better process" instead of just blathering on.  Another hint: Have a look at why the US restarted growing hemp during WW II and why it once again banned it again later.  Try looking at a little science yourself.

  • Cotton

The cotton lobby and pesticide/herbicide makers also keep US farmers from growing hemp.  I also heard a very bogus excuse from a DEA person that allowing hemp growth would lead to growing the evil pot.  What a load of crap!  On Legalizing hemp would help environment and economy, says report posted 1 year, 8 months ago 15 Responses

  • Guns in National Parks

It sounds like you are making a case for stronger gun laws, or a banning of them altogether.

I have done extensive backpacking in National Parks and some National Forests and have never seen the 'infestation' you are speaking of.  I am not saying they do not exist but it sounds like the issue is being blown out of proportion to support the conclusion.  Sorry, I just don't buy this kind of reasoning. On Ban on loaded firearms in national parks may be lifted posted 1 year, 9 months ago 20 Responses

  • Wolf Delisting

    Greenneck,

Nice blog.  I am happy to see someone with a well balanced philosophy with a voice.  My personal view of the wolf delisting is it will do more damage to nature.  As your blog points out, nature is in a delicate balance that is easily thrown out of whack.  While I am not a fan of hunting, I know others enjoy it and there is a place for responsible hunting.  I don't believe all hunting and fishing should be banned just because I don't like it.  Way too self-centered an idea.  I just ask to have national parks as a place without guns.  OT: Have you been to Glacier National Park?  What a spectacular place it is.On Ban on loaded firearms in national parks may be lifted posted 1 year, 9 months ago 20 Responses

  • Guns in National Parks

Wolverine, I understand what you are saying.  I used to hunt many years ago but no longer do.  I do have friends that still do though.  I hike, camp, backpack and volunteer in National Parks, BLM land, and Forest Service land.  Out of those three, National Parks are the only place loaded guns by the public are not allowed.  My biggest concern is the slippery slope one.  Example: Wolves were eliminated from many parts of the north west many years ago.  A decade or so ago they were reintroduced to Yellowstone and The Teton's NPs.  Their reintroduction has had a positive affect and is bringing the balance of nature back to these parks.  There is now a push to once again eliminate wolves.  I can see where once guns are allowed the next step would be to say wolves are not needed because hunting can take their place so the wolves are once again eliminated and hunting would then be allowed in National Parks.  There are many places for people to hunt, and to enjoy nature, without carrying guns into National Parks.  We have damaged nature to the breaking point and need to realize that.  I am getting long winded here but another point; My brother applied for a ccw permit with the reason of protection.  I am not a doctor but have a fair amount of medical training and carry a small medical kit with me.  Neither of us have ever had to use either of our particular items and I am glad of that.  I have shuned guns ever since I got out of the military.  If others want to carry them, it saddens me but that is their constitutional right.  But I also believe there should be places where they are not allowed and National Parks, schools, and my home are three such places.
